it will ruin the micro economies and "politics" of the servers, as well as the power of the server overall
Exactly...that's the entire point... This game is so annoying for new players because of server power.. Pretty much there's a few clans on each server who control the server... Usually 1 main clan controls a server now.. And within that clan a handful of people control that clan... So in essence a small group on each server controll the server... Luckily I'm in the strongest clan in my server and usually the game.
And I have allot of seniority so I am one of the few who actually has a chance to enjoy the game.

I have made this post on another changing servers thread and I'll post it here too.

In another MMO (EQ) they introduced server transfers for a fee. But when you transferred you transferred with nothing. All the gear, gold and anything else you had accumulated disappeared. And at that point you couldn't return to original server. You lost everything! That way there was absolutely 0% server economy impact.

If OTM starts allowing transfers it should be done in this way. The real life cost can be almost nothing (10 plat at the most) but the impact on your character would make most people really reconsider. You would almost need a good group of friends to help you on your new server to get geared up.

When you are dead, you don't know you are dead. It is difficult only for others. It is the same when you are stupid.

i would support this if you also lost say 25% of your current overall level (a lvl 100 would become 75,) meaning they couldn't switch servers and automatically join the best clan

Lol the more I get on the forums the more hope I lose for its players and the game.

Look, I mean absolutely no offense to you, but that idea is rediculous... Like how stupid do you have to be to put that type of system in the game.. Lol.. I would just transfer the items and whatever over to an alt.
And the losing levels is stupid too... The example of being lvl 100 and then going to 75 is fun to think about and all.. But try being level 375 and go down 25% levels from there... Get my drift? Lol it already takes me a week to get like one of the 10 level bars and I'm only lvl 118... ( yeah I don't play much, but still )

Look I know everyone hates me and all... But let's get past that for a second and just focus on better the game instead of tearing down the players. Thanks, Eleminater.

In other news... The point of this post for me is to help you guys understand why opening the servers and spreads the grand exchange across all servers is the best course of action CH could do. ( yes I'm aware you disagree, thanks. )

But what this does is allow players to enjoy the ENTIRE game instead of just one tiny server.
Play in a new server every day.. Mix it up a little. Don't wanna change servers or clans? Fantastic!!! YOU DON'T HAVE TO!
" oh but but my clannies might leave the server or go to another clan from another server " GREAT! Because they probably are tired of you by now...
" but I'm the chieftain of my clan and we are in 3rd. If server changes happen then players will leave to another better clan on another server " GREAT!!! Because you probably didn't deserve to be a chieftain if that happends.

The more you guys say how it will mess up servers and how players will move from server to server and how you explain that to be a bad thing makes me laugh because your proving me right when you say that. Lemme explain. If people are jumping from server to server or whatever. Then that means they wanted to be able to do that in the first place!!!

Grand exchange needs to be implemented at the same time.. I don't want to have to wait around for a phucking week to possibly get a chance to kill a certain boss for a certain item. NO, if I want it now, I will go to the GE and buy it. OR you can always wait around.
Lemme explain something. You pay for everything in life. You pay in 3 ways, you pay with time, stress, or money.
I'm opting for allowing us to be able to pay with atleast 2 of these ways, time or money. Vs the way it is now which the only way you can pay for the items really is by time... You have to wait for the boss or you have to wait to find someone to sell the item.

Opening up the servers turns the game into one massive game instead of 14 micro games.
If you open up the servers you HAVE to spread the grand exchange server wide. Otherwise one server will become the economic server and everyone will go to that server and do their business their. Which technically should be how it is anyways but whatever.

This game is SO small no matter hoe many new areas come out.. It's small because you see the same ol people all the damn time... Even when there's 2k players on a server it would still be small...why? Because you still see the same people all the time as you graduate in levels.
With open servers maybe your friend who you level with didn't log into your server that day and someone else is now there.. Hey what do ya know now you got 2 friends...

I'm going to bed.

Usually the only time MMOs allow for server migrations or merging servers is when there aren't enough players on each server to continue supporting and paying for that servers cost. Happens all the time - even the biggest of them like EQ and WOW.

It is usually based on real life economics rather than giving the opportunity for disgruntled players to look for a new start without consequences.
CH is not big enough to support huge migrations. There is one high level zone and it's just not feasible.

For various technical reasons, I bet OTM would also want load-balancing, so instead of 1 server having 20,000 players and one server having 1,000 players, it's better to have 2 servers with 10,000 each.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who crave closure

A business is more profitable if they don't gouge and piss off customers.

+1 that being said I don't like server migrations at all!

I could compromise for this idea. 2 servers. 10k on each. Wouldn't be all to bad i guess.
Im not totally sure of their capabilities at the moment. I don't know how many players a server can currently support. But perhaps if it could support up to 5k or 10k players and they could have a few servers vs the 14 or so that they have now.. I really don't like how there are so many servers because then everyone disperses like how it is now.

I know this may be a kruch for me but I can't see past the " wanting server hopping " I played runescape for 5 years so it kinda stuck. I do apologize but I absolutely loved it. I loved that it felt like a trip to the markets to hop to world 1 and then when you couldn't find the items or prices you where looking for you would hop to world 3 and then if you where a memb you hopped to w 2. It was fun.. Honestly I don't really know the best way to do this but I really really would love to see a " market" area.
