Melee Mage Build

Im curious if anyone has tried this or if any of u seasoned mages think my idea is bull. But im thinking of switching my mage to rely heavily on melee for training so as to not be too much manna dependent. Let me know what u think od this:

1. Diamond wand - 50 magic damage
2. Offhand golden blade of magic - 200 magic damage
3. Maxed lure of magic
4. 100 strength (pure guess work here, not sure how much ill put)
5. Maxed cloak of fire
6. Lure of fire
7. Prolly use remaining points on lures to help group when im not soloing

Not sure if im doing energy shield or high vit. I submit that this is not the best build but i am toying with the idea of an another alternative build, which is heavier on melee. What do u think? Has anyone tried this?

I wont be able to test it soon as im focusing on my rogue for now but this is what im thinking of doing in the future. My mage has no manna sigils...and this is my proposed solution.

So for each kill ill only be casting: 2 lures, magic and fire, and cloak of fire for every couple kills. Very minimal manna use. Then let my enhanced wand damage and cloak of fire do the killing.

Well, this might work up to shalemont if you don't do aim to do too much damage to bosses, but use your lures.

However, i don't think wand damage is affected by strength. Maybe the magic blade's does, but since it's added to your auto-attack... I dunno
Besides, there's of course the fact that your survivability will be low.

All in all, to me it doesn't seem like a great build, but maybe i've not thought of all you can do with it

No strength.

But it could work. And be elite.

Just like you said but stats like this at high level, divide as necessary.

Strength 5
Dexterity 5
Vitality 650
Energy 50

You don't want to dodge :)

Skills:
Max fire cloak
Max lure fire
Max Energy boost
Half max pierce lure (for grouping)
Half max slash lure (for grouping)

No magic lure because wand damage is negligable, might as well go all else fire and max only 1 lure.


Heroic speed gloves
Golden blade of fire
Fastest wand you can find, mabye sunflower or yulestave not sure.
Greater earthstone type armor for fire damage.
Ect.

Now do this and Rule.
Nerfed Mage ~140
Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

Yes with hero gloves and magic damage helm.

Does strength really not affect wand damage?? I thought it did.
The answer to this is gonna be the make or break for me.

Yes, i what i want to do is up my wand (magic damage) using all the available magic damage boosting items, 200 magic offhand, 50 magic damage helm, and lure of magic, so i can kill with auto attack and cloak of fire.
Hence, i wont be using so much manna - means i dont have to buy manna items i dont already use on rogue.

Will i be able to train decently with this in ow? Is my no 1 concern.

With this training build, i can have enough points to max my lures for other classes, will be pure support if im in a group.

Yea, Survivability issue is possible problem. My vit will have to be huge then str and enough focus for 3 spells im using once for every kill. But ill most likely train with a druid.

Golden Blade of magic is only 150 magic dmg.
Oops 150* magic damage for blade of magic. Ty hahah.

Man, i played with strength and focus on an another lower mage noob i got... Neither seems to affect wand damage :( correct me if im wrong.

Is there really nothing in stats (str, focus, etc.) that can boost wand damage!? I mean even druids have totems that do crush damage... That blows!

Golden blade of magic IS 200 magic damage. Damn, i should stop distrusting my memory lol. Jamesmaawesome, pls be careful if ur not sure...just double check first. Note to self as well lol.
