Hi Tony- I don't know if you are talking to me or not. You didn't make that clear. I think not, and... I have played all those games you mentioned, back to MUDS, back to before pc's existed and games were pencil, paper and the mind.
I like the OTM Mage. Yes, I would like end game mages to be able to go BOOM! Honestly the high end Ice gear is not prevalent enough to really know. As you know, mages in almost all those references you listed level slower and are weaker while doing so, but usually have a big payoff when they get higher... It is unclear to me whether such a pay off is possible with the CH mage...
And I think the cloaking, luring, etc. mages they have made are innovative and very fun to play. I hope they don't ruin that. i think they are currently the most powerful class in the game, and not by a little bit.
In terms of literay references there are many other types of mages and magic systems to consider, though of course Tolkien is iconic. And of course there was only one Gandalf and he had a ring of which there were, what... 3? I forget... Which he could only wield at the risk of being subjugated by an evil power... Etc.
Re: Sick and tired of Mages being so weak
#102Haha just shows how old we are Caliban!!!
I've invested a lot of time and money playing this game, not to mention my clan outfiting me with Frozen.
So quitting is not an option.
Best I can hope for is FIX THE DAMN MAGE!
Almost to LvL 126 and quietly I regret choosing a Mage.
Edit- I played Neverwinter Nights on a Commodore 64 with a 1200 baud modem with dip switches.
So I can say i'm pretty experienced when it comes to RPG's.

Re: Sick and tired of Mages being so weak
#103Exactly like what I said, but people seem to ignore me. It should work the same as Natures Touch, but the opposite. For ex, Nature's Touch heals 1000 health at the cost of 100 energy (not the best example, but u get the point), sacrifice should heal 1000 energy at the cost of 100 health. That'd be better. Also, all mages skills should cost WAY less energy!!! Just thinking of Energy Shield omg. Ice Shards also cost a little too much energy.sigh,Thanks for the feedback - if you could make one change to mages what would it be?
Im afraid the mage class needs more work than what would be acomplished with a single change....
Not saying anything new here, everything that was said before are good solid ideas that would improve the class.
About the PVP...yea its fun and all- but pvp is NOT what the game is focused on. you dont get gold or armor or complete quests by being great at pvp, its a side game thats fun. thats it. its irrelevent to the overall journey of the mage. if your worried about tweeking mages bc it would make them over powered in pvp- make a few spells non-pvp-able.
I think the lure idea was fantastic. mages have a hard time spreading the points around as it is without putting points into something that doesnt help the mage, only the group.
Mages do need to deal more damage or lesser cool down and have faster energy regen. Sacrifice does help, but again- its not enough. And this is a lvl 110 mage with NO SIGNALS WHATSOEVER talking...
as for energy healing...kinda hard to heal what you cant see. and if im using sacrifice to heal a clannie, my health gets so low that i die with one blow. it would be helpful to tweek it so it give a larger boost of energy to a smaller amout of health lost. alot of mages dont have a whole lot of health to begin with since we are pretty much are forced into using energy build to compensate for energy shield and ice shards. (was forced to use it and switch to an energy build at lvl 98 when i couldnt even solo 1* mobs at my own lvl with maxed damage and lure spells)
we are one of the smallest class communities- but we are screaming at the top of our lungs to fix our class. isnt it sad that it looks like a melee build for a MAGE is the best option out there?
Sincerely,

#106It's kind of sad to see the same observations and concerns I made several months ago being voiced today. It's very apparent that nothing is being changed regardless of what people say. The best thing you can do if you are severely unhappy with playing mage is to stop playing mage, regardless of level. And for the love of fluff, don't shell out money if you are truly unhappy. Freemium devs don't care if paying customers are happy or not as long as customers are still donating willingly, FACT. It's a free game, put your mage on hold and play a different class if you so desire. I quite fancy druid these days given that it's a better thought out caster class than mage. I already feel more useful. My mage on the other hand will sit naked for now. There are plenty of other games out there that can satisfy my desires of playing a well thought out mage class. Who knows, if the mage population continues to dwindle maybe things will be tweaked eventually. I'm not going to grin and bear it waiting when I'd be more happy doing something else though. It's kinda funny seeing 11 pages on this topic some months later after some folks were quite unhappy with my complaints. The whole melee mage thing...meh.

#107Heya Frostie-
I think the Mage class is extremely well thought out. I just don't think it does what most people expect when they start playing a Mage. I also feel that OTM is more or less the most responsive game company I have ever seen. Maybe they don't always get it right, or maybe they sometimes have a different vision than voiced in player complaints, but can't be said they are not responsive. I also feel they are really innovative in a variety of ways. Completely different kettle of fish than GL.
Hope your well. Is your Druid on Arawn?

Re: Sick and tired of Mages being so weak
#109I disagree. I believe Mage is very flexible but not well thought out. I do not believe OTM consciously made the Mage what it is today. We have however had some engenious adaptations to our circumstances.Heya Frostie-

Fact is we are the slowest leveling class and the most expensive to make functional.
This would be perfectly acceptable if there came a point when we become over powered. Then I would not mind all the months of eating rogue and warrior leftovers if I knew I would eventually wipe the floor with all of them.

Re: Sick and tired of Mages being so weak
#110Good point Papi. I am used to mages being the hardest to level, but there is always a pay off. I don't see the pay off here and don't know that there is one. I would like to see what an Aggy gear equipped ice Mage looked like though.
I am just loving my 'support' Mage ATM. Unbelievable secondary damage in groups.
