Re: Regular Mobs: Why they Should Drop Rare Items

What I DON'T wanna see from this suggestion however is campers. People(higher lvls) camping & destroying specific leveling spots 90's, 100's, 105's etc because they want some rare heal ring, either to sell it or to have it. I could ***easily*** see bored 152+ players waiting for the game content to increase just deforesting the Tree pop to nab a ring when lvl 110-115 grps were trying to kill oaks.
I'm not sure if this is avoidable, unfortunately. Even Now, when we have what we have (i.e. not when Actually Good items can drop), I see high levels going to SV and farming around Ironspike and redbane - mostly for the gold/item drops to sell. I'm not talking people running through to check on boss spawns, but literally mowing through the mobs and leaving nothing for those who are there to level up.

I see what you mean by that, Tea. But quite honestly, if it is because of luxury items, that is just low on OTM's part. Think of how much more people will play if this game was more exciting! Listening to complaints is not always a bad thing. After all, the players are what fund the future of the game and if good ideas are being suggested but the developers wont listen because they will lose a potential $1000.00 in return for more active players, that's not exactly a good idea. Im not trying to teach OTM how to run their game, im simply suggesting a great idea that seems to be avoided. It seems as though they are doing other things and implying that they have done enough so they dont have to go with the main idea. Is it a mind trick? Probably...

There are other solutions to the lack of mobs and camping. Add more mobs and reduce aggro range a bit is one way. My level 115 rogue still gets aggro in stonevale from a range farther than pre-update. Another way is to decrease spawn time a bit. There wont be too much camping since drops dont just come from one mob and there will be a whole new large area which also introduces mobs that have potential as rare item carriers.

Please read all the above before disagreeing.

I would disagree on this. Most mobs already drop random rare stuff like rings. Crystal and Ancient rings are your answers to the notion of rare stuff dropped by normal mobs in OW. Problem is that with recent changes to drop table where rings are guaranteed to drop and higher spawn rates of bosses, people are simply bypassing these loot and they now become practically worthless.

The rare-r stuff are by rarer monsters or sub-bosses has chance of good bracelets. I like how the current drop rate of the Imperial and Godly stuff are kept really low, as it should be. There's no point in everyone being Godly. It will yet again make the game so much less challenging.

This game really needs some player differentiation, especially with grand / royal rings dropping like cupcakes now. The grinding matter should be looked at, based on optimisation of experience, and have more areas with mobs with grind or even shorter spawn time for regular mobs.
Im talking about rare drops being rare. What are the chances a rare mob will spawn and what are the chances is will drop a rare item? Transfer that rarity to regular mobs so you always know you just might get it even though the odds are extremely low.

Those rings were never something i looked forward to.
I recalled when i first got into Otherworld being lv 80ish and when it was 2-3 weeks after it was released. I was looking forward to Ancient and Crystal rings. Fabled, Grand and Royal rings were like "OMG RARE". Guess what, they changed loot table, 100% 1x ring drop from bosses, more spawn rate for real bosses and the outcome? Exactly what you have just said. You never looked forward to it.

Enough said.

Im with SirBlaze on this one all other games you are able to obtain some lower grade of high end items from random drops or bosses. I do not see why a lower grade of all lux items are not dropped throughout the game that can be obtainable by the new players to help them when lvling and saving money to by high end lux items. To me this would be simple and easy to do, for example the Skullcrushers and the frost hammers wear a helm similar to the bloodlust helm, so why do they not drop a lower version of the lux helm. You could have both a pierce and magic just real low versions of them like +10 magic damage and a + 3 pierce. I no way should these be consistant drops from every kill but the should NOT be so rare they are unobtainable to the average players and should be bind on equip to help moderate the flow of these items, this would also keep the higher lvls from farming these areas. There are also countless other spawns that have similar lux items that could drop I will list the ones that are most apperant.

Hagvar Hairy: Drops an energy or health regen crown + 5
The Scryers: Could drop both gold and silver focous items maybe + 2 -5 energy or health and a rare energy and health item
Greywall: Could drop one of the many shields in lux (once again very low version of it)
Blackstone: Could drop a book like with +5 regen of energy (only equipable by druids and mages)

I believe these would greatly help out the newer players in the game by adding obtainable lux items that really loose there assistance to a player once he lvls to 70 -80 and has begun killing mobs that should begain dropping better gold amounts and loot. When I begain the game if it was not for several players who greatly helped me out with some old armour and weapons I was quickly becoming discouraged and had not played the game in over three months, however this act of kindness allowed me to obtain the money I needed to obtain my first ammy from the lux shop with the money I had save to purchase an ancient war bow.

P.S. what is with the Grove bosses such as harbinger now dropping pages this is the biggest let down in the entire game.

Agreed. Harbingers and Baobhan Sidhes were ruined when they stopped dropping rare gems/weapons and started dropping common pages. Same for Artisal... He used to drop multiple ancient weapons per kill, but now drops lame book cover/bindings. Artisal was great for all the newer players that complain about not having good non-lux weapon options or being able to make gold.

Next time, rather than removing valuable rarer drops from rare spawns and replacing them with common loot items, it would be preferable to enable existing (or new) common mobs to drop the common loot.

No idea why but something popped into my head earlier. Thought i might share it.

I really wouldn't mind to have RARE Fashion items to drop from regular mobs. It has to be made rare enough though :D

e.g.
1. Eyes can drop variety of BIG-EYE Cyclops-style hat of various colors.
2. Trees dropping trunk-like fashion parts that turns you into a tree when you collect and wear them all.
