As a contribution to this post, I can only agree with tea, no point in saying what has already been said.

I was just wondering if you needed someones permission to take their IP and store it for reference like that of which has been said - comparing it to the IP adress of the user trying to claim the account. Is that an infringement of someones privacy/rights or are they allowed to do that?

Please, not trying to make an accusation just mere curiosity (I am sure there is a perfectly legitimate and truthful reason, this company is a good one after all).
