I guess I'm a pastor now :)

#1
So as many of you probably noticed from my signatures, I'm a christian. I have been one for about 7 years now. I have been going to the same church for all those years.

There are several things that I have come to dissagree with against pretty much every church I have seen.

1. They don't really help the homeless much.

2. They basically make you give them your money or "tithe"

3. They aren't open to suggestions on how to run it.

So going back to the bible I think that we should be and need to be helping the homeless more. Our goal should be to bring them up out of poverty if they are willing.

The new testament doesn't mention tithing 10% of your money to the church anywhere. I think pastors should work and support themselves for the most part and people can contribute to them if they want. This precedent is in the bible from Paul. People should be free to spend thier money to help others how they see fit. Not how the church sees fit. This precedent is also set from Jesus in a parable.

So basically taking all this into account...I don't have much option other than to start a church myself. And I'll do it the way Jesus did.

I'm just going out to downtown sunday mornings and hanging out with the homeless there, getting to know them, help them out with necessities where needed, and teach them christian principles where it comes up.

My goal bieng to make relationships with the homeless and help them get themselves out of poverty, but mostly just to fellowship and live the christian life. And have a blast.

Im excited :D

As a man who has seen and experienced it all I must say that you have very good points.
What your doing is right and I fully support it, good luck with it and all the best. Let me know how it works out, I'm very interested to hear from you.
For inspiration you should check out a TV program called the "Choir of Hard-Knocks" it tells the inspirational story of a man named Jonathan who does what ever he can to help the homeless, poor and under-privileged.
It's a very good program and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

As a Fellow Christian, I think your points are quite valid indeed. But the Church I go to, is actually based around those points. I fully support you, and I wish you luck!

I'm glad that your intentions are good.
The only question i have is, if I remember correctly, didnt God command the Israelites to give the first fruits of their harvest, or blessings, in the Old Testament? Im not sure whether it is 10% or not.
But in all, be sure it is God's will, trust in Him for whatever comes your way, and may God bless you and go with you on your journey.

From my readings and life experiences you have to keep your relationship right with God first and foremost. I tithe appropriately, and even though I feel strongly in my gut that the church is doing wrong with the money, I let them be judged by God. It is not my place, it is the faith that his plan will triumph in the end. I am in my mid 30s and my life has been blessed since I have truly turned to him. It was not always like this. I was raised a Christian always went to church as a child and thought I was doing it right. I was just going through the motions until I found out about walking with God and trusting fully in him. Now I ask what I can do for him and everything falls into place.
Good luck Marco, and may God bless.

I totally support what you are doing. But all churches are not created equal.

My church for example:
Has no paid ministry at all. The only one who gets a paycheck are the custodians. And the employees of the business it owns (mostly schools).
All tithing money goes to facilities and missionary work.
It has its own welfare program including disaster response.

Keep up the good work.

Awesome, glad to hear there are other churches that follow these things.

Ya for sure. But that was the old testament. New testament churches should be based on the NT and all giving in the NT is portrayed as optional and up to the individual.
