There is only one reason for ranger to use a spear... tanking. They use to the spear because you cant equip a shield with a bow. And the only way they can really tank is have a nice bolas taunt. So no a spear ranger is not a must and really isn't necessary, I agree with Hoen.

Or how about you compare the damage of golden blade of fire with golden quiver of fire.

Obviously you dont understand the term "RANGER" maybe ranged combat. And it's pointless for a ranger to use close combat because they do more damage with a bow. Leave the close combat for warriors and rogues. And I cant compare those because I dont use fire lux, that would make sense with the mobs I take on. And for further refernce you cant compare a quiver and a blade because of the regen of the quiver. A more accurate comparison would be with a trident or dagger.

ok melee elemental offhands do 200 damage. Elemental quivers do 100. What does the most damage of those two?

Now spear is about only 1/4 slower than the bow and roughly the same dps so the spear would do more dps theoretically with elemental lux offhand.

Then you have the void trident at your disposal for the spear ranger, further bringingthe spear rangers dps above the bow ranger.

And google celtic hunter and you will see they used spears more often than bows.

First off I honestly don't care what google says about celtic hunters, obviously this game is so inaccurate when it comes to history, which is good because then it would be boring. And the class is called ranger, not hunter.
As far as offhands, you are ONLY considering the elemental blades. The elemental quivers are almost exaclty the same as the elemental tridents, because of the regen and around the same damage. Maybe there should be a quiver added with more damage and no regen so it could be like the blades. The fact that rangers have the ability of ranged combat means that using bows with that ability is more effective. Close combat doesn't even stack up against ranged combat. You try surviving lava or stone lord right next to him while continually attacking. The fact that they can do most mobs without receiving dmg is enough. They dont need spears, they shouldnt use spears.

The only issues I really have is that rapid shot is bugged to work with hand to hand if you use bow to cast then switch, it should wear off id you take your bow off. The other thing is the new armor event bosses should be long range enough to target rangers.

Maybe if you threw the spear but that's not the case.

All I beg for is at least a 35 second cool down to Bolas.
No other class can solo enemies while taking no damage, fix it.

Im saying this to apply to your bolas concern. I agree the rapid shot bug should be fixed. I personally dont use spear and only use hand to hand in the arena.

I agree . but the event bosses do target long range enough in my opinion. I just think bolas cooldown should be increased by 1.5x (50% in other words) because monsters should be able to hit players with melee once in a while.
