I just marvel at the people that are pro Obama. He has not only continued the hated George Bush policy's but also embraced some of them. I.E. Guantanamo Bay detainment facility in Cuba. He promised to close it the first campaign, but not only has he kept it open nothing has changed. Then there was the foreign wars Iraq and Afghanistan, the troops are still there, he said they would be home within the first year of his presidency. He said the healthcare debate would be in front of the American people, instead they passed the bill behind closed doors in the middle of the night. These are just a few examples. If he would have done just some of the things he promised while running in 2008, i would probably vote for him today. Instead he has given us a debt that cost each American $200,000 to pay off. The government does not make a product and sell it to a consumer, the government takes money from a taxpayer, or a business that pays taxes. Eventually the debt will have to be settled or people will be bringing in wheelbarrows full of money to buy a loaf of bread due to inflation. Just think things through and research things on your own and ask lots of questions and you will better yourself.

Public health works very well... As do all public services, sure taxes are higher but quality of life and the economy benefit in the long run, people who pay more make more,

Again I'm in Canada so it doesn't affect me as much but minimum wage here is 10.25 per hour, we make more, we are taxed higher, but everyone has healthcare and good education raising the quality of life as well as helping the economy
OK your in Canada. I can talk to that. I lived in Montreal for 5 months back in 98.

All my friends hated the health care system because if you were sick you would have to wait months to see a doctor. The common practice was to cross the border to see a US doctor. They would rather pay for service now then get free service 3 months from now. Also, I have met a lot of specialists that leave Canada and come to the US to practice medicine. They claim Canada exports it best and brightes because they can make better money in the US.

well montreal is a bit of a different case... quebec has tried a few times to become its own country.
i know that in ontario, most voters are NDP (new democrat party) voters who are are very socialist minded and imo, the country is better off for it
sure lots of specialists go to the states, but thats because they can gouge people out of absurd amounts of money as the government doesnt impose a salary cap, the way it works in canada is that the doctors cannot take advantage of the patients, also patients who cannot afford to go to a specialist are able to because of the healthcare system

Back to the intent of the thread:

I think Obama will win for a few reasons. (This has nothing to do with who I want to win; I am just looking at the facts.)

1. It is rare for an incumbent to lose. People like stability.

2. The economy has been doing better and better over the past year. Voters have short memories, and tend to remember the most recent news.

3. Romney has been unable to convince people that he is a man of the people. His massive wealth sets a huge divide. (Yes, Obama has a lot of money as well, but people see more humble beginnings with him...there is also a 200 million dollar gap between the two). Romney really does seem out of touch with reality when I have seen him. I think the "She drives a couple of Benzs" will be brought back from the sound room.

4. Romney's being Mormon is a large obstacle, I believe.

5. Regardless how you feel about a more universal health care system, it appeals to the lower echelons of economic classes, and to seniors. They hold the most voter power potential. Whether they vote or not is an issue.

6. Obama is a far better speaker than Romney.

7. Obama's voice is very pleasing.

8. Obama is arguably more handsome that Romney. It's a close one, though. However, Obama's smile beams, while Romney's seems forced.

9. Obama has some good one-liners. People like to laugh. I have never heard a funny sound bite from Romney.

10. Michelle Obama is generally well received, I believe. Romney's wife just seems like a jacked-up Romney supporter.

11. Corporations are doing well. The DOW and S&P 500 are up 8% to 10% these 12 months. Again, voters think in short terms bursts. People see their 401Ks coming back to life. They don't want to mess up anything that might be working. Seniors, especially.

12. Negative campaigns directed toward Obama have had the reverse effect, and have made the Romney camp look like a bunch of witch hunting idiots. It doesn't matter if Romney endorsed the ads or not.

13. The Obamas have a dog. Dogs imply loyalty, family, and friendliness. They are very endearing.

Those are the main reasons, anyway.

You say Obama is a great speaker, I say that he is a great reader. If he is not reading off of his teleprompter all you get is uh, uh, uh, now let me be clear and Bush left us with a big hole to dig out of.
Secondly, the stock market is doing good due to inflation. We have been monetizing our debt (word of the day for you to research on your own) which has been decreasing the value of the dollar, which makes the stock seem better you have have more money to buy the stock. Just go to your local supermarket and tell me the price of a gallon of milk. Remember when gas hit 150+ dollars a barrel and it spiked at the pump to $4.00 a gallon, why is it that we are close to $4.00 a gallon now when a barrel of oil is under $100? If you could take the blinders off and think for yourself, these problems would expose themselves. But too many people in America are one sided and will not listen to the otherside. I am not a republican by the way, I am a proud Libertarian. If the Libertarian party would knock off the weed issue, I feel we would be a legit party. So in my observation I think both party's are wrong.

I'm going to be perfectly honest here... I read until "inflation" and then skipped the rest because you have obviously missed my point.

Three sentences into your reply and you seem to be trying to prove me wrong on certain counts. As if proving me wrong is actually worth something. Read my post again. I answered the specific question that Papi asked. I'll rephrase for you: "Who do you think will win the election and why? Don't tell us who you want to win, but who you think will win the election."

I don't give a shyte what you think Obama is doing when he is speaking at a event or on TV. He could be reading, he could be inferring, he could be channeling the spirits of dead Kennedys, or under the spell of some vision inducing dragon, for all I care. Fact is his lips are moving, sound is coming out, and that sound is pleasing to the ear. (I tend to think of that as speaking). That is the end of it. There is no deeper meaning.

Inflation and the stock market? Pfff. Again. Doesn't matter to most voters. Stocks could be up because of consumer sentiment, they could be up because the dollar has been debased, they could be up because China has decided that it will not rest until it owns 51% of Apple and 46% of GE. Not my point. Most people open their statement they get from the bank each month and shoot their eyes to the bottom where it says "Account Value." That is what they base their opinion of the stock market on. Not on whether or not inflation is the cause of it all.

I answered the question with the reasons why I think Obama will win. You have tried to take this a different route, telling me what you believe to be reality. Completely different arguments, my man. Reality is a non-factor in my post; I am talking about what I think the impressions and emotions are in this election.

Now allow me to read the rest of your post...

Ah, jeez... I really didn't want to get into any crappy half-assed pseudo debate. That's why I answered the question that was asked, rather than going off on a rant about who is better, or what is wrong about the other guy. Again, not part of the original question.

Ok, I will address a couple of your rants.

1. Though it is not my current profession, I have extensive economic education and training. Please don't patronize me (or anybody, actually) with that "word of the day" garbage again. You come off as a wanna-be know-it-all student. While I admire your passion, it is essentially wasted energy.

2. I think you might have seen a few eloquent OWS speakers, and you might be parroting their statements. Take the blinders off and think for myself!? lol... again, you make yourself sound foolish. I did think for myself. My entire post was self thought. I analyzed the American voter, and isolated what I think the most important things are to him/her. You need to think for yourself and start coming up with original content. I could simply watch some old OWS videos on YouTube to hear what you said. PLUS it had nothing to do with my post. I consider effective reading to be a very big part of thinking.

3. Milk? Gasoline? Ya... Americans are pampered when it comes to gasoline. I currently pay 150 yen per litre. Converting litres to gallons, then yen to dollars... I pay about $7.10 USD per gallon. Yes, I remember $150 a barrel oil. At that time it was 185 yen/litre, or $8.75 USD/gallon. Whining about $4 gas ain't gonna cut it with me. (Edit... forgot about the milk. I pay the equivalent of $5.50 - $6.50 USD for the equivalent of one gallon of skim milk, and $5.70 - $7.00 for my son's 3%. Hunh... Google search comes up at $3.50 - $3.99 for 2012 average prices. lol... must be nice). Voter sentiment? Perhaps. But not strong enough to make a difference.

Now pull your head out of your egocentric arse and read it all again.

I am not asking you to agree with me or disagree, just for the people who look at Obama as the great leader and question themselves honestly. Don't take one person's word as facts, until they have investigated it on their own. I just want to recommend a movie for those who follow without reasoning, Idiocracy. That is the everyday person in America today.

I agree that this is how the clueless masses see the issues. The real question is who shows up to the polls. The clueless masses or those who try to understand the issues.
