Tank Armor (how Quests play into it), and the lost Shield

#1
Not a complaint per se, just an observation from in-game..

1. Summer Event
Summer event key things you could gain. Radiant (or lesser armors). Sunflower Wand. Hat or mask collection.
Radiant armor bp and greaves (two highest armor pieces for warrior), are pure DPS armors. Great for rogues, rangers, dps mages. Horrible for tanking warriors. Radiant boots add some defence, and could be a replacement for frozen, but lose resists. Gloves and helm add some energy, but less armor and no resists. Also means no heroic gloves. Radiant neck nice but lose heroic ammy. Defence rings and bracelets most useful for a tanking warrior (or health). But no armor improvements. Sunflower wand.... um.. cool, but would be nice to see change from a wand every event.

2. Samhain event
Key things you can gain. Quest armors, Bat Wand, Crazy hat collection, Bat Masks, Rat Quest.
In reverse order. Rat quest is cool, quick, simple, and nice reward (even armor boost is Ok). Bat Masks, um, focus may be good for mage/druid, but other versions not so great, and would be nice you could sell them to store (noone wants) after you have 50 of them, instead of dropping. Crazy hat collection, insane, but definitely one for the collectors out there. No issue with it. Bat Wand, nice and relatively easy, and can be done in a day if diligent. Bat shots are nifty, but a wand again.
Quest armors. Definitely not a DPS armor this time around, which is nice. Useful for mages/druids looking for some focus since frozen doesn't add focus. Decent for rangers without drag armor (radiant/greater/lesser) who would like some evasion ability for ranged attackers. Nothing bolas doesn't usually address though. Warriors (specifically tanks), not so great. Definitely not a replacement for frozen, but could be something for those who haven't wardened up yet. But if you have frozen, there's no reason to switch as you lose a lot of armor, and all the resists which is kinda critical as a tank. Better looking (except greaves) than frozen though. Frozen looks like spray on tan for warriors which seems a bit odd as it should be formidable looking.

3. Shields
Most un-loved by OTM in game i think. Only available in store now it seems. Pre-update you could get rare ancient shield drop, but even those were not as good as in-store purchase shields. And of course, there are zero quest shields in game. For something that tanking warriors use pretty religiously, I think it's a little left out. Would be nice if there was a questable shield for warriors (yeah, I know it's specific, but same could be done for Rangers quiver, and rogue/druid/mage offhands). Shields could also have a damage version? like one with spikes or something that adds less armor, but helps tanking warrior with some damage. I know most/all offhands in game are all in-store purchase, so I understand the reasoning, but still would be nice to see something.

Overall, I guess my comments are really driven to the fact that nothing has really been designed around tanks except frozen armor, which everyone has. I like all the items that have come out, and really enjoy the twists on character builds people have been able to develop with the new items (i.e. dps fire mage). I just would like to see some twist of armors that help create tanks (or even create new character builds in diff classes as tanks), such as a bp for mages with +10 energy shield, or special lamellar armor for rangers that slows attack speed, but gives them real armor like warriors (i.e. a Heavy Archer class), shield of bark armor for druids, and for rogues (eh.. they are op already.. hehe).

OTM, as noted, this isn't a complaint, just a discuss of some character development paths that haven't been exploited, as most people have clammered for more damage than anything. I would be interested in some defensive build items.

OTM, you've done a great job so far, I appreciate the time and effort you have put into the game, and look forward to new updates.

I 99.9% agree. I started training my warrior, BrutalBrenda, to become a tank and the shields are only store bought and don't really get good until you can buy one from lux or wait till level 60 to buy from OW. The event armor is not appealing to tanks either. My main is a druid and the only the gaunlets are appealing because of the extra focus. Diamond for everything else. The armor is mostly for rangers and mages, imo.

The only part I don't agree with is that warriors in general appreciate this because for the longest warriors have complained that there wasn't anything really allowing them to go dps. Now they have it. Tanks still have quartz, diamond, warden, meteor, frozen. Both builds are expensive (buying diamond/things for warden and buying radient) so it kinda now even out the fact that now warriors have gear for both builds.

Well, I dont play a warrior but I do play a spear ranger and I can attest to the difficulty in finding good shields. Currently the only good options are through the lux or scav shops.

Yeah because what is it the ancient shield? It's not really worth it.

Honestly, I think tanks an endgame role anyway. Not really much to tank until you are at least level 80.

One thing i noticed while using the royal mountain shield was that the extra armor doesnt help that much only see a small difference in the damage i take campared to the difference in damage loss when using the sword off hand. Another thing that bugs me the most is a pure tank with a frozen sword and a sword off hand deals roughly the same damage as a hybrid warrior with 300+ str makes no sense imo.

I think not only shields but any decet offhands are only obtainable in lux shop.. Which of course will cause everyone to have same offhand. Like one of those rare weapon these days, maybe a strong offhand rare drops from apprentice mobs would add more individuality in people. Honestly, basically everyone has mountain shield and it is kinda annoying to see such a good shield is seen so often. I think offhand in lux store should be decent but never best. Like the armors in stores. Diamond armors are pretty good to start with but it is never better than frozen armor.
