Re: Limitation of the Rogue role/purpose

I have no doubt that you can stay alive for an entire pyrus fight. If stacked with enough vitality, rogues can be a damage sink for most any boss. The downside to being a rouge tank is holding aggro.

If I am the tank for a boss fight, it is my main goal to be the meat shield for the rest of my group. My point wouldn't be just to stay alive, but also keep everyone else in the group alive. Warriors have their crowd control skills (taunt, warcry, shield bash) to make sure they can hold aggro in the face of whatever DPS is there whacking away at the boss.

I think the argument being made against rogue tanking here has less to do with the ability of the rogue tank to stay alive, and more with an aggro issue. Meaning a tank built rogue at level 130 has no way to hold aggro against a DPS built 130 rogue.

I have tanked ythair on rogue..
And props to ya for that ;)

I think that with the right build, rogues can make good tanks in certain situations. I would just prefer, being a DPS rogue, to have a warrior tank with taunt and warcry to ensure that I won't steal aggro and die every 2 minutes.

Kiy and/or Guffy, may I ask what your tank build stats are? Just curious as to what your view of a rogue tank is.

I normally am 300 vit and 420 str, I had to rebirth to like 100 str an the rest vit when I did ythar. It is more gear based than stat based. I wear when tanking four 27 armor greater charstone rings, full frozen except gloves seeings how our frozen gloves armor is same as haste, and royal mountain shield.
Sounds like a good setup. How did you hold aggro when the DPS guys joined in?

i love dps rouge cuz they got high dmg skills, but from other hand, they could tank even better, their skills r preety strong so it can help them keep aggro and not like warrior, i hate tank warriors
mages have the most options i think, H2H, spell dps, energy support, lures support, and even "sub-options" like ice-mage or fire-mage
u can always be hybrid, my warrior is hybrid, well i changed my offhand from golden trident (preety awesome for hybrid) to golden blade of ice so my health is also preety low but i got extra offhand (royal shield of the mountain) and i keep lvling my vit, i can tank and be dps but pvp isnt that good sometimes
druids also got some options, like pure healer, support druid, dps, idk if theres any druid that uses H2H
i love druids that uses heals and one support skill, im using nature touch, embrace, breath and abudance
and when u lvl to 90 u start getting some extra points that u can put into a ward, ward of fire is awesome for fire golems and wyvrens, some ppl also prefer shield of bark over abudance for golems, and ward of giants (crush resist) can be also good for golems
with rangers, they r awesome with any build, bolas is awesome, support is preety awesome (with skills like light heal, entangle, defensive spikes and one melee skill), dps is also awesome with bolas
most of the ppl want dps rouge cuz they like massive dmg, and rouge is the best choice for that, i think that dps rouge is also kind of support since he does a lot of dmg and fast hitter (helpful to interrupt skills and can do a lot of dmg that can save spots for druids or any other support class instead of warriors) and he can use distract what makes him even better so he wont take aggro and will bother druids

OP dps warrior on Belenus, hot af melee druid on Nuada. #Elementals #Apex

I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that rogues can tank better than warriors...

The purpose of a tank is to be the one to take all the damage for a group and prevent the rest of the group from dying. Just because the druids in the group can keep a rogue alive for the duration of a fight doesn't mean he is an effective tank, it just means he has a lot of health.

A warrior not only has better armor than any other class in the game, but also taunt and war cry. These skills, when used effectively, can hold aggro against the best damage a DPS rogue can put out. There is no way a rogue can keep aggro when set up as a tank if there is any other effective DPS in the group.

It sounds to me like most of the warriors you have encountered have either been hybrid or DPS based, and I do agree that if both warrior and rogue are depending on their DPS to hold aggro, then of course the rogue is going to get aggro more. That doesn't mean a rogue in general is a better tank, it means that the warrior either isn't set up to be a tank, or is just awful at it :)
