Re: Gladiator quests in Arena - a failure?

It's nice to have more people in the arena, however I agree until there is some benefit from pvp (be it visible titles, pvp only items or benefits etc, proper pvp rankings) then the arena will be underused. However we do plan to add a lot more purpose to pvp going forwards.
Can the purpose be PvP centric too? I realize I may be in the minority in this, but I still think putting one of the daily quest inside the arena is a bad move. At best, it's nothing more than a bad job of trying to "improve" a useless aspect of the game.

One of the things I have found recently. For the most part it is a nice stand in line progression but every once in a while you will get some people in that will kill anyone who will try to get the quest so you have to stand guard with a toon or two to protect the quester. One of the more annoying things that has happened to me is - I will have my level 54 ranger slowly whacking away at balmon while someone else will hover near buy and hit him a few times to help out, then when balmon has about 10% of his point lefts the guy will come up behind me and start pounding on me. By the time you realize it is not balmon hitting you and you actually have to be defensive, you are dead and the other guy gets the medal when I did all the work.

Very annoying.

I like OTM's working on more stuff. A PVP stat board would be great. The gladiator quests themselves I wouldn't say are a failure. Like elim said I'll take any quest that gives that much daily xp. There's more activity in the arena than before the quests.

I guess failure was a harsh word. I used it to invoke discussion. The thing is these gladiators weren't put in Farcrag, or in Lir's Reach. They were put in the Arena for one reason - so that people will fight each other for who gets them. The fact that it's a daily quest that rewards a lot of xp doesn't really matter. But since people simply take turns to get their daily dose of xp, then I would say the original intent wasn't met. It just goes to show that majority of players do not want conflict if it can be avoided. There's just no incentive to kill each other.

This is where you use the simple game mechanics and just lay there dead, he finishes the kill and u get the reward. O he resets it and you come running back and reset him. This makes the war and the pvp battle that is intended

Not exactly an expert (I've yet to lose a fight in CH... or win one), but from what I've seen, there's not much of any thing when it comes to PvP, in CH. More often than not, the ones I see are just standing there, hitting (or casting, as the case may be) until one of them dies. I'm not sure, but I don't think I've even seen a Ranger use a bolas-and-run tactic on enemies...

Add to that the fact that there doesn't seem to be a level restriction to "duels", and I really don't know what OTM, and I guess You, were expecting from the arena even with this daily quest.

so many times i could just take out the person fighting the gladiator and get the kill myself, but yes, it would create a ba reputatation. whether it be allowed or not to kill the player with control over the mob (it is fair in my opinion) if you kill them and take the mob, they are going to be pissed either way.

I think the main reason is that the experience is too great to lose out on. I mean I'm not against a good arena fight, but that quest is awesome experience for doing almost nothing. I think in our world there is an unspoken agreement that we let each other get our xp, then move on to other things. If we want to fight in the arena, then we can fight in the arena.... just not over the gladiator :)

Especially for non-plat buyers, 110k xp is worth a little "politeness" to those doing the quest ahead of you.

lol... my university had an insanely popular T-shirt that went like this: "Celtic Heroes Football (logo) Undefeated since 1965"

As for the OP, yes... In terms of what the goal of the quest most likely was, it is probably a failure. Herne does have a good Royal Rumble from time to time, but it is (as a poster above mentioned) only between two clans. Most others move in freely and complete the quest with ease.

Admin's comment regarding expansion of this quest sounds very interesting. It would be neat to have something special about PvP.
