Re: Favorite band?

It just kills me to see young people believe the carp they hear. When half of their street cred is staged just so they make a name for themself. And when they become a household brand name the man who created him aka the producer puts millions of dollars in their pocket. So what is the definition of slavery again?

Back to the OP and bands... I find it ridiculously hard to answer my favourite, so I'll list a few, as a lot depends on my mood at the time. Some cross over decades, but you get the picture...

1960s: The Doors, The Stones, CCR, The Who, Cream, The Grateful Dead, The Velvet Underground, Them...

1970s: Led Zeppelin, Sly & the Family Stone, George Clinton and P-Funk, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull...

1980s: New Order, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, The Cure, U2, The Smiths, Tears for Fears, R.E.M. ...

1990s: Nirvana, Phish, Pearl Jam, Neutral Milk Hotel, Red House Painters, the Chili Peppers, Sublime...

2000s: Blues Traveler, The White Stripes, Radiohead...

Man, I didn't even touch on my other favourites, like Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Charlie Daniels Band, Lynard Skynard, The Band, The Stokes, Black Eyed Peas...

I know I will hit Submit, and then think of something else. :x

I guess if I HAD to choose one band, I would say Phish. But variety is what makes all music so great.

Dersu: I was surprized at what I didnt' see. How about Blue Oyster Cult, Foreigner, Eagles, ELO, Scorpions, Def Leopard?

If you think I am just puffing smoke out of my backside.... Lets just take a recent music award show as an example. There was a fight that broke out between two rappers one had a little exposure and the other one needed a name for his self. One of them fired a gun supposedly at the other. Lo and behold no one has a bullet hole in them not even one of the many bystanders. If I recall correctly his name has a gun in it, I think young gun or something to that. So randomly a guy called young gun started a fight used a gun an just happens to be a rapper. I ain't buying it, I think a producer needed a new hot commodity.

@pigman - I haven't been able to get a hold of any the the, yet. I live in Japan, so the selection of UK indy music from the 80s is pretty limited. lol.

I checked the Record store, but it would have to be ordered (at a price of about $70 CAD) and the rental shop didn't have them. I don't really download new music, though I did look for them on Frostwire (which is what I use to get all my Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Django Reinhart etc :D ) and nothing came up. I'll probably wait till I go home next and burn the disc from my friend.

@Papi - The Cult should certainly go in my list, yes. lol. I like songs from all the others, but don't know I would put them in my favourites.
