Myself normally being a "craftsman" in MMOs I play, I'm really looking forward to crafting. I would really like it if you gained xp from crafting, but I would understand completely if OTM didn't want to do that.

What I'm thinking, maybe each recipe has a set difficulty to it. You be able to craft an item depends on your crafting ability level, and the difficulty of a recipe: I.e., Rusty Chain Mail (made with rusty chain scraps) is gonna be a pretty nooby recipe, that will be easy, so the crafting will almost always succeed, especially at a high level. If you do a recipe a bit above your ability, it will probably fail, but might not, etc.

Once I get to level 80, get full Green Shadow Armor, and get myself an icon, I'd be interested in having an artisic rendering of my character for my sig. :D

Breastplate of Wyvern Slaying:
Made up of leather and chains (noob drops) as well as enchanted wyvern scales. It also harnesses the power of a red glowheart for extra fire resistance.
I like the idea of using existing vendor trash drops to use in crafting. It prevents OTM from having to create all new items, and it opens up a market for these items. I can see the market for crafting items really taking off in update 5 when they put in an auction house.

Heres' an idea that's an altenative to enchanting... each piece of equipment has a certain amount of slots to it. You craft items to put into those slots. That way you can customize your armor on demand, swapping stats in and out as needed. Think of it like Materia in FF7, except with stat bonuses.

The bonus for OTM doing this would be that they wouldn't have to create totally new armor and weapons from scratch every few months. They could rely on the players to upgrade their own gear, and OTM could focus on other content. It would also allow OTM to put more items in the plat store for epic crafting materials, gaining them more money.

Another thing, I've played a game before where in order to craft something, you needed to first get the recipe as a drop from an enemy. That in itself wasn't a terrible idea. What I hope does NOT happen which this other game has, is for the recipe to be "consumed" once you craft that item. Basically, you got recipes from monsters, but it was a one time use, which absolutely ruined crafting for me in that game

Great to hear your thoughts about crafting, it's going to be one of the main focuses of the next expansion and is long overdue imo.
Please don't make gathering crafting items frustrating, like forcing level 190s to go back to Lir's Reach or Catacombs to farm crafting items.

Why not make high level mobs drop multiples of materials. Like 5 scraps from one level 110 or something.

Here is another idea!

What if we could melt down those terrible armor pieces that noobs wouldn't even use an turn them into ingot of some sort. And a certain amount of scrap can also be melted and molded into an ingot which can be used to make other stuff.

I like this concept of "uncrafting" an item
