Re: Mages STILL underpowered at high levels

But, while a 100% DPS Mage may benefit the Mage in the short run, a near max Lure of Assassins or Lure of Soldiers can have a HUGE impact on a very difficult mob or boss. I choose to be about 70% DPS and 30% support, and I enjoy this build. I can be an asset to a Wyvern group or an Aggagoth kill, but I can also kill many of the red boss Ph's solo for gold and what not.

THANK you, Tog. Finally, somebody gets it.

Ya but can you solo? ;)
I solo hunt, and can kill any Gem Red Ph, and most all the other Red Ph's. This keeps my gold going. I can not solo level with my current build, and I do not think I would be able to with the new spawn rates in the Wyvern cave now even if I adopted the new Melee Mage build. But I am in demand for my high lures in any leveling group, so I don't have much a problem leveling when I want to as we have a large clan.

Since this was directed at me, yes. As I have said before, I can solo red ph's up to gem bosses, just like Tog. Since I kept my shards, I can do my dailies as well, which is the primary source of my xp now that I'm 149. Lures at 20+4/30 have made me very popular for leveling groups and, more recently, for aggy fights. This includes invites from my clan and other clans. I cannot solo wyverns, but this doesn't hamper me in any way, so I am not in the least distressed by it.

I think the issue here and the source of much of the rage is marco's (and others') wish to be full dps mages and not to provide any support. Going 100% dps will be extremely difficult, as will going 100% support. This is why I went hybrid and am happy with my choice. With that, I have nothing further to contribute to this discussion.

Well I tried switching Mage to hth without adjusting build at all and it kicks ass on the Ymir guards . Using my weak Druid alt I am tearing through these guys now , my only issue is remembering to keep casting boost as long as I do I don't run out of energy during a lix .

To be fair to marko , I tried using full radiant on Mage for first time and it rocks, also using 2 rad willow rings .

Why didn't anyone mention anything about Mage spells missing? I have maxed ice and fire abilities and my ice shards miss 30% of the time on same level Mobs and my fire about 35% maybe? Sometimes I even get double evaded... Come on now. Mages wait a nice chunk of time for ice shards to load and then get evaded? Ultimate facepalm IMO.

Because mages don't get evaded more than any other class.

Fair enough that all classes deal with the same amount of skill evades but for a pure skill-based mage, this has much more of an impact on his or her DPS than auto-attack classes such as rogues/warriors and strength-based rangers. To be fair there should be a stat similar to attack for skills that reduces resist chance. This way at least a mage could make the decision to either reduce resistance chance or pump more into damage and play the apples.

Lets see...
I do agree that warriors have an easier time soloing stone mobs then mages do.

Around lvl 135ish you can solo horses fairly easy with a DPS build, so why go to guards?

Wyvern (4* mobs) arn't meant to be soloed so i dont even know why thats an issue...

Truthfully, I've given up soloing after lvl 125. I have assassin, soldier, ice lure and ice shards maxed and some points in boost (with ring it goes to 10). I did switch to a dps build to check out the horses and it works great, but im more of a support person. :)

I think our dps is fine btw. You must always compare gear of different people. I can gear my shards up to 43/30. Ofc I'll have better dmg then an auto attack rogue my lvl (in the short run) with that kind of gear boost.

If anything at all, then maybe reduce the shield cool down time, since its a mage's only life line. But imo thats not a priority. Im quite happy with my mage.

I recently started playing this game again after quitting around last July. Is it my imagination or was the cool down time on some skills readjusted/reduced sometime since I left? I've been playing on a few different servers and trying a few classes just to test the waters. I got hooked on one mage toon I created and have been seeing how far I can lvl without investing in lux items etc. Maybe I'm just familiar with the game mechanics, but I've been actually having fun and am almost lvl 40 in just a matter of days. I'm noticing more people playing mage now than 6 months ago...is this a valid observation across all servers? I can see how mana management will be an issue moving forward depending on how I invest my skill points...I remember it being quite miserable with a lvl 90 something mage and lots of sigils, etc. So far with my lvl 40 I don't feel underpowered by any means and I have invested zero dollars into my character. I am reaching a point where running to the tavern for mana refill is starting to be a hassle and would love to get an amulet. The only thing I'd love to see is a slightly lower cool down on energy shield, but I'm not sure how much I would actually reduce it due to risk of becoming overpowered.
