I believe Druids AND Mages are true support classes, Druids just accept their primary roles unlike mages.

To me, a Mage that is not Support (Lures, Energy Buffs, Cloaks), is like a Druid that is not support (Heals, Bark, Embrace).. People would think a Druid that is not support is crazy.

That said mages CAN deal Good DPS (I believe a Druid could too if they went straight DPS with no support skills like mages do), I just think their Primary role is support and that is where they are most effective.. It is like a Rogue being a tank.

But what you have to remember is whilst a Mage CAN be good DPS, that is down to Earthstone Gear and Aggy rings. A Mage that doesn't have Earthstone Gear or Aggy Rings should stick to Support IMO, and the classes that find it hard to solo whilst being support (Mage/Druid), should save up and buy themselves a Golden Blade to help with things like the gladiator quest etc.

So I. Answer to your question, I'd say:

Melee:
Rogue
Warrior
Ranger

Support:
Mage
Druid

Simple as that.

But yes, Support is infact a build, not a class.

Not one ranger do i ever see uses defence spikes. (Well they use but it's level 1)

Well, IMO handling mobs in a boss fight is support. So yes, I have seen many rangers using support skills and doing add control

Many high level rangers in morrigan use spikes
