new to druid...what to wield in offhand?

#1
I am new to the druid (and celtic heroes) and was trying to find a guide like there are for the other classes to assist with what to expect. I understand that a lot depends on whether you want a healer, DPS or hybrid. I am at 34 and I guess I am going the hybrid route. I played up a rogue for a little while (39ish) and switched over to a druid thinking I could play them together, but haven't got there yet. Regardless, I am interested what can be carried in the off hand and is it even used. For example I am carrying a shield, but if it is not doing anything then it is just dead weight. But I don't know either way. I am still low level and haven't seen a weapon that a druid can carry in the off hand and assume that they can't duel wield like a rogue (confirmation?)

Also, I have read through the list and saw a reference to a book and the need to fill out the pages and that you get the quest from a druid on the outer layer of the castle. At what level is it available? Or, is there a pre-quest that has to be completed before he makes it available?

You don't need an offhand yet. Masters grimore will cost ya close to 200k.
At your level I suggest maxing vines, lightning and embrace. You can also use roots up till level 60 or so.

Once you hit 60 it's time to consider your gear and play style more.

There is a quest person in the castle and in the upstair of the tavern that give you page quests. Again you don't need them at your level. Don't spend any money on the pages till you are over level 60.
People will see pages from 300-3000 gold so don't get ripped off for a spell you wont use yet.

Nano I am a hybrid but as others has said at your level wait til u get a little higher in level to worry about offhand. And no you cannot have dual wield totems like rogues have dual daggers. I recommend you save gold for a heroic ammy in the castle luxury shop. It costs 200k but as druid you will be using alot of energy and it is well worth the gold. I will say a hybrid can be more expensive than a pure healer or dps because they need both dps and healer gear to be an effective hybrid.

To give you an example my setup for healer: heroic ammy (200k), masters grimoir (200k), energy bracelet (100k), energy bracelet (100k), crown of energisation/wizardry (150k) totaling 750k. This is just lux gear and doesn't include anything else.
My setup for dps not included with healer setup: golden trident of ice (225k), heroic speed boots (150k), heroic speed gloves (150k), golden helm of severity (150k?) totaling 675k.
Combined u have costs of up to 1.4 million gold as a hybrid as opposed to half that amount if you were just dps or just healer. Granted u don't have to buy all these items but it is best for being healer and dps.

As far as a guide I was thinking of making one for new Druids but just haven't had the time to do it yet.

kartier, thanks for that information. Looks like I will just be saving all the gold I can get. I, for one would be greatly interested in any kind of guide you can provide. I can certainly see that a guide for a druid would be twice the size (or maybe larger) of the other guides due to the very different paths you can take with this type of character.

Hi nanocore,

Welcome to the Noble Class. ;)

As mentioned, an offhand isn't a necessity at your level. You do, however, want to start preparing for the future as mentioned.

Do you have a Totem/Totem skill yet? If not, you want to get that out of the way. You can politely ask a higher level to escort you to the Stone Farm (the Totem trainer is there) and start training your Totem skill. Try to get a Totem from another Druid... if not, buy the cheapest (about 2600).

You're first financial goal should be 20,000 gold. With that amount of gold you are able to view the luxury shop in the castle (you still won't be able to buy much there, but all you want is to view the items). Once you can view the items, you can see their stats and what they do.

One word of advice is to avoid buying anything at the vendors... lux shop included. Always try to buy from another player who is upgrading their own character. You don't need top gear at any given level (that's a desire)... what you need is gear that matches your level.

I'll give you a little example. At about level 60 I realized that I needed an energy rejuv necklace. I bought a silver ammy of energization (some armour, energy, and +10 energy regen) from another player for 30,000 gold (it is 50,000 in the lux shop) I used that until I was about level 105... at which point I realized that it wasn't keeping up with my needs. I sold it for 35,000 gold (got lucky as the person really wanted to buy) and bought a Golden ammy of rejuv (armour, health energy, +15 energy/health per tick) for 100k from a player (150k in the shop).

Now since your question is about offhands, I will say that my first offhand was borrowed from a clanmate. It was a +10 energy per tick Golden Focus of energy. I used that for many many levels, until I gave it back and bought my own (bit better) focus that gave +10 to both energy and health. Again, I bought that from another player for 85k (150k in the shop)... I got lucky on that one too, as the person needed to sell. Since then I have upgraded to a Golden Bodkin of Spirits, which I still use. I bought it off a player for 90k (150k in the shop).

The point I am really trying to make is to learn what you need, it's retail value, and then try to find that from another player.

As for making the gold you will need, the biggest thing I can suggest (aside from normal training/vendoring) is picking up any green presents you run by, and every mushroom you see in Shale and eventually Stone. You can sell presents and fettlecaps to players, and other mushrooms to the vendor. Here is a thread where I tried to give some advice to someone trying to make gold: http://www.celtic-heroes.com/forum/view ... 69&t=19591 and here's a thread about making gold from General http://www.celtic-heroes.com/forum/view ... =4&t=20677 You might find a couple tips in there.

Good luck.

Oh, what world do you play on? If you play on Herne, I might have some items that can help out.
