Re: new to druid...what to wield in offhand?

Dersu, more great advice, many thanks! Unfortunately, I am on Danu, but I will take your advice and see what I can come with on this world. And no, I don't have totem skill so I will have to look into this as well. So, if I buy a totem without the skill it will just be a weapon but won't skill up, or will I not even be able to equip it?

No problem at all. The Druid community is very good for helping new players who ask concrete questions ;)

That's too bad. I still have my first Totem that you could have had.

You can buy and equip a Totem whenever you like. But it would be the same as using a non Druid weapon. In order to get better at using it, you will need to get to the Stonevale farm and learn the ability from a trainer. I think it costs 100 gold to learn the skill.

Then you will see the skill increase as you use it. As your ability increases, you will miss less. As for getting to the farm, you have a couple options: Ask a higher level to escort you/block for you; buy an invisibility potion from someone (or do you have one yet from doing the questline?); just run yer tail off.

I just ran like the dickens. If you run it by yourself, I would probably go in through the boar side of Stone (ummm... so from the McCroin (sp?) camp, cross the little bridge and go to the corner where the woodcutter is, enter from there). The reason I say that is because that path leads directly to the farm. If you enter Stone at Greygorge, you will have to pass through a Faerie field which might be dangerous. Anyway, just run run run.

While you are at the farm, take the opportunity to harvest a bunch of mushrooms. there are 7 or 8 that grow there and no enemies to worry about.

The cheapest Totem is sold at the McCroin camp (will need to quest to unlock the vendor). Take a look at it. I forget the name, but it is about 2600 gold. I would then try shouting to buy that Totem. I wouldn't spend days and days shouting for it though. You might very well have to buy from the vendor, as it isn't an item that is sitting in everyone's backpack. Well worth it though, as you will be using a Totem skilled weapon for most of your career. And of course, it allow you to hold an off hand.

Good luck, and feel free to ask anything you are unsure about.

It's ancient wolf totem (2.6k), easiest way to farm is via MacCroin encampment running east? Towards the pass into sv, (north road) totem costs 100g (got that right)
If ur support Druid just cast all 4 buffs n run like hell (with my build didn't lose much health, pm me if u want it)

well first of all, save for ur first totem. only for ability, and its also one handed
dont get any better than anc wolf totem, the dmg between wolf to other anc totems isnt very diffrent, wolf is faster if i remember right
well first of all even at lvl 60 i dont think u can get the lux gears ppl said
i always prefer a melee dmg as main for farming and stuff (mostly warrior, easy class, can solo almost with any crap)
but farm when u can, he place u will farm at depends on ur lvl
around lvl 80+ if ur still dps, the grove at stonevale is the best place. untill then try to find good place, with lots of mobs, and weak too, good gold and drops
also, untill u get the best lux gear, focus on lower ones, like bronze ammy of eng (dont buy any rejuv if its not heroic, waste for a druid in my opinion)
also, when u buy those lower lux gears, try to see what is also easy to sell, so u wont be stuck with this too long untill u get better
i wouldnt put much time and gold on warden-met-frozen, my noobie druid got almost full met only cuz i got those stuff from clans, didnt pay anything
those gears r just for show off, even for solo the diamond is better
diamond icon is recommended at lvl 80 (adds 200 nature magic), diamond bp (20 foc), spiritshadow/diamond greaves (both add 15 focus, spiritshadow gives 3 points to this shrouded skill, good evasions and kinda good armour for druid, idk if higher than diamond. diamond greaves adds 15 vit too and resists)
eng crown (+15 energy regen and 150 energy) or wizardy crown (+50 focus and evasion i think)
spiritshadow gloves and boots give more focus than diamond, but u can get heroic gloves and boots first (for me speed boost is always last, i prefer to save some gold and be less lazy untill i get everything else, i also prefer 150k cloud or something and not boots.... faster.)
well, thats kinda all i know, hopefully i helped

Dual-wield yuletide staves if you can get an offhand. that would be pretty epic. i think ill look into that actually.
You can't dual wield Yule staves. As far as offhands go keep saving up for a grimorie or a golden trident. Both are great, if not the best offhands for druids. If you have some gold in the early levels building up towards your endgame off hand consider a golden focus of rejuve/energization. I used one up to 100+ till i could afford my masters grimorie.

Now that I think about it, either a Golden Sword of Ice, but preferably a Golden Dagger of Venom or Golden Trident because of their health and energy regen properties. Make sure to have a decent mainhand though or these won't work out too well. I found that out.

This is what I think:

Master's Grimoire: Support Druids
Golden Trident (Preferably Magic): Hyrbid Druids as it gives damage and regen.
Golden Blade (Preferable Magic): Full DPS Druids as it gives loads of damage.

Hope this helps. I used A gold trident of magic when I was A hybrid druid, now I use A masters grimoire as I am A support druid.
