Just curious, more children die in car crashes every year than gun violence. Why are we not talking about banning cars?

@ Dersu. I'm sure you're information is accurate to the best of your knowledge. I'm not questioning that. One thing I would like to point out: Those numbers are spread across the entire country. Crime rates will be extremely different between "gang territory", and, say, amish country. I can almost 100% guaruntee that i will never be involved in any kind of gang violence. If i ever have to use a gun on another human, it will because they broke into my home, or are in a public place threatening the safety of other people, or myself. This is very different from how guns will be used in the bad neighborhoods or areas controlled by gangs. So all im saying is that when looking at the numbers for each country, remember that certain areas will have much higher crime rate than others.

I'm talking about accidental shootings, if that wasn't clear. If you think there is a burglar in your house and you go downstairs with a gun, accidentally shooting a family member or the dog is much more likely than accidentally stabbing them to death

@hawk, that is true. But also a bit flawed in that the UK has more gang related deaths per capita than the states does now. But gun related deaths in the US overall, are much higher per capita

The US death rate per capita numbers are inflated. They take in all gun violence, even when a government officer shoots a criminal. Other countries just post citizen on citizen gun violence.

Police shooting of criminals/non criminals us also much higher in the states though. The more I think about it, I believe that the culture of guns in the USA is the issue. The country (from my perspective) has a culture of gun use that exceeds that of other gun toting countries.

No I am saying its part of the fabric of America. Its what sets us apart from other countries. If you yake away guns and a populations ability to defend itself, well then you have any suburb country of Russia.
