New Forum Rules

#1
Hello!

I've just posted some new forum rules, the full list of which can be found here: http://celtic-heroes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4958

These rules have been introduced to help improve the forum experience for everyone, and help make the Celtic Heroes forum an even friendlier and fun place to be.

In this post I'm just going to go over the new rules and explain the reasoning behind them. Whilst they may seem strict, we have deemed that these rules are necessary. These rules have come into immediate effect; however, we will not be retroactively going through the forums and editing posts that have previously been made. Whilst the moderators will strive to explain their actions, it may be the case that a topic or post will be removed without warning or explanation. If you find a post you wrote has disappeared from the forums, please check the forum rules and think as to why your post may have been edited.

Although there are a lot of forum rules, they are not an exhaustive list. If I, or any of the moderators, feel that a post or topic is against the spirit of the forums we will remove it, even if it is not covered by a specific rule. I will be constantly monitoring the forums and updating the rules as and when it is necessary. I hope you understand why we are doing this, and of course if you wish to discuss anything feel free to send me a private message and I will do my best to answer your questions.

The new rules are:
Do not name and shame other forum users. This includes accusing other users of acts such as scamming, account trading, kill stealing, or other dishonourable behaviour.
Naming and shaming other users will lead to the post being edited or deleted, and the user warned. While I understand that sometimes you may wish to warn other users of a particular player, allowing the targeting such players opens the door for abuse and therefore naming other players in such a way is not allowed. You can present your information whilst keeping names out of it, and if someone wishes to find out more they can private message you. If you wish to report another player than please do so using the in-game support tool, as this is the most effective way of having your issue looked at.
Do not create topics or posts which aim to upset, insult, or aggravate other forum users, or aim to cause unrest in the forums.
This covers topics which, for example, call out another clan's actions or simply serve to stir up trouble. We want the forums to be a friendly and welcoming place, and therefore we will be clamping down on such topics.
Do not spam the forums. This includes posting the same topic across multiple forums, posting multiple threads on the same or recently raised issue, or posting topics which are not coherent.
This is something we have been moderating, but I realised it was not written down as a forum rule. Multiple threads on the same issue will be merged, or the original topic may remain whilst duplicates are locked/deleted. Spam topics will be deleted.
Do not post with the intention of defaming or discrediting One Thumb Mobile or Celtic Heroes.
This does not refer to posting constructive criticism about the game. We welcome such feedback, but it must be posted in a constructive manner.
The forum moderators and administrators have the right to edit, move, or remove any topic or post which they feel does not conform to the Forum Rules without warning, and warn or ban any user who they feel is in breach of the Forum Rules.

The forum moderators have the right to use their personal judgement if they feel a topic, post, or user is disruptive in a way not covered by the forum rules.
Again, these two rules were not present before and have been written to make clear that the moderators and administrators have the right to edit any post/topic they feel is disruptive towards the forum.
Do not have an images in your signature where the total size of the images is greater than 500 x 150 pixels.
This is to prevent people from having very large images in their signatures, and therefore clogging up the forum.

I understand that sometimes people need to be aware of what has happened, but you can make people aware of a situation without naming an individual.

Naming someone allows people to target abuse towards that person, and this is something we do not want here on the forums. If people want more details they can message you and ask for them, but I ask that such information is kept out of the public forums.

Targeting abuse towards someone is a form of bullying, and we will no longer be tolerating such things on the forum. The correct way to handle things is to report the player in question to the Support Team, who can then fully investigate the situation.

Naming players simply allows for a witch-hunt to occur, and it may be the case that the player named has actually done nothing wrong and is simply a target. We don't want innocent players targeted in this fashion, and the best way to prevent this is to implement this new rule.

I for one am happy to see these new rules. Bullying has been going rampant across the forum and in-game. The bottom line is people lie. I myself have been accused of scamming before because some low level got pissed that I didn't let them in on a boss. How many other people are out there that have been wrongfully accused as well? Everyone has an agenda, so you can never believe everything that is posted on here. Just like many situations are likely exaggerated (I caught a fish "THIS BIG" when in reality it was only "this big"). I have no doubt many situations that are posted on here are real, but you have to be tactful about it. This is a public forum and quite frankly many people get way out of line on here. Cyber bullying is a very real thing and it can have quite the adverse consequences. These rules lay grounds for a proper infrastructure, they are not unreasonable in the slightest.

Do not have an image in your signature which is larger than 500 x 150 pixels.
This is to prevent people from having very large images in their signatures, and therefore clogging up the forum.
Just a couple questions:

1) is this 500px length by 150px height?
2) What are your feelings about including animated gif images in signatures?
3) What about multiple 500x150px images? Like if someone put in 8 to 10 of these images?

1. Yes, it is 500px length by 150px height.
2. For now, animated gifs are fine. If they get out of hand we'll take another look at the rules, but at the moment I don't see a problem with them.
3. Multiple images are not allowed. The image size rule is designed to limit the size of signatures so that they don't take up a huge amount of screen real estate. Having multiple pictures simply defeats this purpose.

If the new rule concerning picture size is only "Do not have an image in your signature which is larger than 500 x 150 pixels", then I think you should be more specific. Otherwise this is becoming a loophole where people can put more than 1 picture of that size.
