Scamming, selling accounts, etc. is an issue for Support to handle. These rules are to prevent constant griping on the forum. How many topics have been locked or removed in the past month alone because people have gotten out of hand bashing one another in a he said she said battle? These rules are to keep everyone civil in discussions, nothing more and nothing less. Anyone who is found without a reasonable doubt to be scamming, selling accounts, etc. will ultimately in the end get their just reward from Support. Let's face it, has bashing each other on here honestly done a single productive thing to eliminate scamming, selling accounts, etc.? The simple answer is no, it hasn't.
At least some awareness can be made if someone is revealed to be a scammer. I'm sure it helps a bit especially since so many people are trading accounts these days. How can we know if all of these are handled anonymously and discreetly? Scammers can wreak havoc until support can deal with them.

gotta agree with Elim. OTM just gave scammers and account sellers, full immunity. What gives OTM? :o
We haven't given scammers any immunity. We would rather that players use the in-game support tool to report scammers and account sellers rather than posting their names on the forum.

Scamming and account trading is an issue that is present in the game, not the forums, and as such we feel it should be reported and dealt with in-game. Accusing people here on the forums simply presents the opportunity for insults and abuse, and I for one do not want our forums to become such a place.
I've gotten not a SINGLE reply to any of my past 10 or so tickets from support. Be nice to have some kind of response honestly.

I completely agree that awareness should be made if legitimate. Unfortunately, there are very few ways to authenticate a claim. Screenshots of conversation are the only real evidence, but far too often people just make arbitrary claims without any factual proof to back it up. The other problem is when people post these screenshots to the public: 1. there is more to the story 2. they only cause the accused person to blow a fuse and send the whole discussion into a disaster. The reality is flaming on the forum is counterproductive. If one has a screenshot of a particular incident, they should send it directly to Support with the date and time the incident occurred. By doing so support can look at the chat history for that segment of time and make a fast and easy decision. Everyone has to remember that Support is likely not going to give someone the boot after one instance of scamming, etc. That is why you need to send a support ticket every single time something occurs or have multiple people send in tickets regarding the same issue. Support likely follows a 3 strike policy of sorts in which someone must violate a rule X amount of times before X consequence is even implemented. I think people are far too often impatient with the results they see, most likely because they do not take the proper reporting measures. The thing people need to remember is that just because someone tries to scam you and even if it really pisses you off, OTM may have a different perspective on punishment for a particular instance than you do. Sure OTM could ban every player that tries to scam a penny, but I can tell you that is not what they want to do. Just like you could throw someone in jail for stealing a piece of gum. Sure as a store owner you are probably very pissed off, but the government isn't going to give you the maximum punishment. Nor is OTM going to give the ultimate punishment of an IP Ban for such things. I have no doubt more goes on behind the scenes than everyone even realizes.

Just because someone says "be warned, I just got scammed by so and so", doesnt necessarily mean its going into a flame war. Now it's prohibited to even say so. In any case, I really don't care much besides watching out for people who have shady reps trying to get in our clan. I think we pretty much have that covered and don't really need the CH forums. It was just a good resource until today.

Do not have an images in your signature where the total size of the images is greater than 500 x 150 pixels.
This is to prevent people from having very large images in their signatures, and therefore clogging up the forum.

To clarify, this means the Total size of All pictures? E.G. You can't have 2 or more pictures that would exceed those parameters?

Whilst it does not necessarily mean it will turn into a flame war, the potential for it is there. I understand that this is a strict rule, and the decision to introduce it was not taken lightly. However, in the long run I think the benefits will far outweight any negatives.

The rules are aimed at protecting all forum users from abuse and insults, and the only way to protect absolutely everyone is to have a rule such as this.

We're not saying people can't post that they have been scammed. People can still post this, we're just asking that they do not make reference to individuals or groups in reference to the incident.

Yes, this means the total size of the pictures.

So for example, if you have 1 image which is 500 x 100, and another image which is 500 x 75, this would exceed the maximum size. However if the second image was 500 x 50 then this would be ok.

I understand why they dont want ppl using names on the forums but lets face it most of the time someone scams and are reported they still are allowed to play and continues to scam. Most cases its left up to players to warn others and deal with the scammers may seem unfair to those who dont actively play the game but this is how scammers are dealt with. If u stop us from warning new players who scammers are it allows more scams to happen which indirectly would be OTM fault even if u say all trades are final. Now for the account buying and selling i know OTM bans the seller account but how does that punish anyone for breaking the rules? All this does is remove the access to an account the buyer shouldnt have had but it doesnt really punish anyone since the seller usually quits so doenst care or makes a new account and the buyer keeps his same stuff that he had before buying the account. Why not ban the buyer also they also break the tos and are as guilty as the seller and deserve their account banned.

Putting a post that says "I've been scammed" is just an invitation to be ridiculed and laughed at. I understand the reasoning why you want to keep the forums friendly, but making them so strict because OTM assumes that everything will turn into a flame war. That's usually what happens in forums, and that's why you have moderators, but some of these rules borders on censorship and suppresses free speech. Clan competition is already being killed in-game, now you can't even call out a clan's bad behavior in here.

Voldemort is now on a lock and censor spree. Let's just all talk about bunnies and unicorns, shall we?

Let's say I was scammed by someone pretending to be someone else with a similar username, I would post:

"I got scammed today by a user that's username is very similar to someone who is trusted [in our clan]. Please watch out. If you would like to know the user, please PM me".

I don't see how this will suppress freedom of speech. :)

No, you can see I have left the vast majority of posts untouched. It's a bit of an exaggeration in my opinion.
