If your going to update the rules then you announce on the announcement section. And you are yet to clear most if not all points that have ravaged through the 'Admin or Community' confusion. You came out of nowhere and then start giving out rules... how would you expect people to reply to that? You got my reaction. It was WHO ARE YOU?! But now it makes sense. If your gonna add yourself to Forum Manager at least announce that too.
The post in Announcements containing the Forum Rules was updated with the new rules. I thought that such an edit would be visible to other forum members. However it is clear that this is not the case, and so I apologise for not noticing this. In future any further forum rule changes will be posted in the Announcements section.
When I started in this job I became a forum administrator, and was placed in charge of the forums. I, perhaps naively, thought that people would understand that as a forum administrator I have the same rights as admin here in the forum. This includes locking topics, banning users, composing new rules etc. In hindsight I should have posted something introducing myself, my role here on the forums etc., and I will be doing this shortly in the Introduce Yourself forum.
I don't have an issue with people expressing opinions or having arguments with one another. These things happen on a forum, and I encourage such discussions. What I do have an issue with, and what we do not tolerate, is people being abusive towards one other and making personal insults. You can disagree with someone's point of view without resorting to insulting them. Over the past few weeks I've noticed that most 'arguments' here on the forums have become nothing more than people spewing insults back and forth. This is something we do not want, and is part of the reason why we introduced the new rules.
I imagine things were very different back when the forum was first created. However, as both the game and forum grows we have to take steps to ensure that it grows in a healthy and productive manner. New rules and new moderators are part of this process. I realise that this means things will be very different to how they were, but in the long term I think it will be better for everyone.
