Should grasping roots be used? It's like bolas, but the enemy won't move at all, very usefull when you're in a group with ranger dps

#2No.
Not only does it have limited use, it's absolutely useless for when you're grouped with melee classes (since they have to stand close to the mob)

#3Its really not that useful. Before when it stacked with a rangers bolas it was almost OP but now its not really worth the skill investment.

#4Not enough benefits to make it worthwhile compared to some of the other skills druids are able to use.

#7I try it every once and a while just because I like to mix up my skills.
The tank needs to back up for it to work and that goes against everything they know.
I think there are a lot of better skills to spend the points on.

Re: Grasping Roots
#8Granted, I am new to this game, and still don't have a good place to go to determine the best course for my character. So, with that ignorance, I put the skill in grasping roots and have kept points in it to hold off 60 lvl mobs. Now, that I am reading more from high level druids on this forum it seems I see howling winds mentioned and never grasping roots. I am just about to hit level 55 and am now wondering if I misappropriated my points. I have mainly played solo since my time on is very sporadic and doesn't lend itself to grouping for any length of time. So, I guess, based on my playing habit, I am forced into a more hybrid build with more of a slant towards DPS. With this in mind, grasping roots works pretty well for me with respect to energy/health management. So, this thread is very opportune for me, as I hope I might get a better understanding why howling winds is better then grasping roots? The replies have all just assumed that the reader knows that howling winds is better. After reading more forum posts this past week I decided to put an extra point in howling winds to see how it could help. So, last night after some trial and error, (for soloing) I went with grasping root, vines, and then lightening. When grasping roots was just about to release, I hit howling winds and then went to hit with my totem. Then as lightening refreshed I hit it and also used natures embrace to give some small health back. When needed hit natures touch. It all worked, ok. But, I couldn't really see if the howling winds was helping that much. Yes, I know it only has 2 points in it, so I can't probably expect much. So, before I explore rebirth and reallocate the points, I am hoping to get a little bit more of that information that everyone else seems to know, but I haven't found.

#9None of the replies have mentioned Howling, actually, or implied/assumed anything relating to Howling. Just wanted to point that outThe replies have all just assumed that the reader knows that howling winds is better.

Tho It Is, IMO, better than Grasping, it would still not be a first in line to get points, again IMO. One of the biggest thing about Grasping if you're soloing: its usefulness negates one source of DPS, your totem.
Here's a good post about HW

Re: Grasping Roots
#10For early levels grasping roots is great for soloing.
You will find as you get higher level that it becomes less effective mostly because the mobs die a lot slower.
As for howling wind you will need to max it to have any chance of it helping you evade most mobs. It is very effective but I don't know to many druids that used it at lower levels.
