No, rules are meant to be followed. History is made when someone leaves a legacy; a lasting impression. Hitler broke a lot of rules (a big jump from here, I know), and he is a key part of history now. What he did was not condoned, though. The ones that made historical discoveries didn't break rules generally; more along the lines of breaking misconceptions.

Rules are everywhere and they always arise even when there were none in the first place. It's human nature. Ever read Lord of the Flies?
