Do sigils work when you get hit by skills?

Right now I am training my warding skills at druids and my 150 hp sigils don't seem to work. I am with one Branchtwister and one Fellbrother. Is that because of Fellbrother's vines? Or Branchtwister's wind?

Skills count as being in combat
