Re: Any new players enjoying this game?

I feel it's kind of an exaggeration when people say you need plat to be successful in this game. Saying this as modestly as I can say, I just about have as good dps as it gets as a main for my level, and I've never bought plat. I don't lix either. I'd be 130 or so by now if I actually put effort into leveling lol. I outdps just about anyone within 10 levels of me on an appropriate level boss or mob. I have new lux and lots of damage gear, and I consider myself a somewhat high level, and I've never bought plat. I also did all this without a clan. Whatever you put into it is what you get out of it.

U don't have to buy plat to play the game but u do need plat items like idols or many others. As for lux the amount of time and effort to make the gold that will buy u lux is enormous and near impossible to get while enjoying the game. The easiest way would be to exploit the events and sell lots of stuff to high lvls im not sure how u got ur gold to buy lux but this is probably how. So in general i dont see many new ppl enjoying the game this way.

Ya the player retention rate seems very low.

We have mabye 10 new people on our server a high level and by new I mean people that have been playing mabye 6 months or less.

What I see is that at least 90% of players quit by level 60 because they realize they have to dish out (a lot of) real money if they want to play at any reasonable pace.

At least 80% of people quit by level 40.

At least 50% of people quit by level 25.

probably more like:
50% of people quit by level 5.
of the remaining,50% quit by level 10
of the remaining, 50% quit by level 20
of the remaining, 75% quit by level 40
ect.

So so so many people quit because the game is advertised as bieng
free but everyone quickly finds out in all actuallity, its very expensive actually.

Why play a class where skills cost more than other classes for same damage?
Why play a class with no auto attack?
Why play a class with 1/3 the armor?
Why play a caster?

I am filled with admiration at players like yourself. Not buying Plat and working slow and steady.

But in terms of this discussion who cares how high you have levelled without buying Plat or Elix etc?

You are the exception and not the rule. My main got to nearly 90 the same way other than a few backpack expansions but i don't think I would have the patience now.

This thread is about new player's reactions to a game that is becoming more geared to Plat buying either directly or indirectly (player grinds for gold and buys Plat or Lux items). The down time between kills and the drudgery of the grind either make a player buy Plat to sell to get Lux or just perhaps give up.

I think as levels increase you will find smaller percentages of players like yourself.

Dont confuse the admirable with the moral.

What I mean is in game terms it is not necessarily "good" to level with endless grinding. Many people don't have the time for this or the patience. They want fun. You say you are "successful" but this is a game not a career choice. The game should give fun and satisfaction (not always the same thing).

There needs to be a balance between grinding Versus achieving something and having things to do at each level that give rewards. If we all hit 200 in a week the game would be boring but if it takes a year to hit 90 or 100 and the ONLY activity is grinding then that is boring for most people too.

Luckily the clans and other player interactions help ie people to socialise with. But isn't that is also a telling negative that the game is not developed enough to keep interest on its own ?

I would agree.

This game is quite expensive.

I would assume that:

* This is my calculations and may be inaccurate
** Sorry for sort of jackin your idea mdimarco
*** NP = Non plat
Say 100 people join Celtic Heroes
10 Buy 8k Plat

By Level 10:
- 10 NP people quit
-0 Plat people quit

Level 20:
15 More quit (NP) - 25 total
0 Plat quit

Level 50:
- 45 More NP quit - 70 Total
- 1 Plat person quits

Level 100:
15 More NP quit - 85 total
2 More plat people quit - 3 Total

So Out of the total 100 people, 88 Quit.

Out of 90 NP people, 85 quit by level 100.

This probably happens once every 1-2 months.
Mage - 196
Ranger - 182

woohoo!

im unique ;)

ive spent only a small amount of money on this game and am still playing at lvl 89 soon to be 90
.
Congrats. That is a good achievement.

But woohoo us all again at 120 or 130 and let us know if you feel the same. But this thread is about new players so your example is good news.

I am levelling an alt without Plat or Lux from my others Toons at the moment (middle 70s) and it isn't too bad.

When I was new to the game back in winter 2011 in update 2, it seemed like there was more to do. Now as more content keeps being added there seems less to do. Bosses and grinding is about all there is to do. I think it funny how it seems more entertaining with less levels back than, then it is now with more levels and more content. I may be wrong but i would think new players now maybe stay longer than back a few updates ago so there is better progress in player retention but I don't have the statistics to say for sure. Only otm would know this.

I will say i agree, as a low level i enjoyed the game much more. And as i play my alts that feeling comes back. Its strange. Maybe because i can solo without almost dying or idk its strange.
