Grasping roots

#1
Just wondering what other druids feel about roots energy cost, duration, and cooldown.

I am thinking the spell cooldown is perhaps too long and it should be similar to bolas where you get two attempts should it be evaded.

Energy cost for a level 37 roots is 377 per cast, anybody think this is excessive?

Maybe it would be good for in to mirror bolas cast duration and cooldown times?

Anybody else agree with me on these points?

I'm not a druid person but reduce cooldown a little would be good, and reduce energy cost. It doesn't last long I can't remember, and thats a huge energy cost for something not THAT effective.

I think root is just fine the way it is right now. I think it has same duration time and effect time(?) and mob does get to hit u once or twice between recast but it seems a bit op if it can be recasted constantly. By the way it is right now, u can already root a boss with just two druids(or 3 to be safe) and one druid being able to rootthe boss for whole fight seems a bit too much.

On the energy cost of this skill... Well almost every druid have same problem anyways :D

Dingo, the reason why Grasping Roots has a specific cooldown is because the mob wouldn't be able to move. Top it all off with Grasping Root's likelyhood to hit, this makes the matters worse! If the duration was decreased and the cooldown decreased, it would even it out, but we wouldn't want that now would we? The current situation of Grasping Roots is fine. Think about it this way, Grasping Roots would be the most overpowered skill of all time. I level with it, I know. Even with its current state, I could easily kill mobs 20 levels above me. Top it with Strangling Vines, Lightning Strike, and Stinging Swarm, I was fast before the update, Stinging Swarm made me kill faster.

Grasping Roots is fine, if changed, would either make it overpowered or break it.

i dont know about everyone else but ive NEVER seen anyone above level 30 use a grasping roots

so my logical conclusion is that it just sucks

i used it at first with my level 8 druid who i deleted and restarted cuz i didnt want to spend 3k for an alt book to erase the skill points on roots
it wasnt very good because the whole point of roots is so the enemy cant hit you but you can hit it with long range attacks

well the only long range attacks my druid had was vines and strike
so i cast strike and vines and i waited...and waited...and recast roots...and waited...and then striked again and the level 5 crookback guy died

so my end conclusion is its only good for dps/leveling build druids with lots of offensive spells (strike, vines, swarm, storm touch)

is this right? :?:

I think one of roots biggest problem is that you enter into agro range when you cast it, but this may have changed, its been a while since i used it.

Also after a certain level of mob, its highly unlikely you will get the kill in less than 45 sec solo, so having to recast and run away, will, a lot of the time, put you in range of another mob.

Being in a group and using roots, to me, is just a waste of time, as rogues and warriors need to be close to kill, nullifying the potential benefits.

The only place and time I have seen it be of any use, is at bosses, or, as a low level where most mobs can be taken out in the 15-20 sec time frame.

I guess some people will say its great and use it, but by and large, in my experience most druids drop it like it's hot, and utilize the skill points in something else.

Another draw back is, you need to max it to be able to use it on high level mobs, as it depends on the skill points to actually root a certain level mob. The points do not change the effectiveness of the spell, just the level of mob you are able to cast it on, as my knowledge of it now stands.

I'm 167 and I use root all day. Roots is the new wind.

I never wanted to be DPS, but I guess I'm a hybrid now. I just don't want to use a book of alt every time I go from training to boss killing.

I can kill Mobs 3 lvs above me 2stars in one root, and root lasts 20 seconds not 45.

Its usefulness is obvious in a group with a ranger, mage or another druid, but its great for crowd control when your with a warrior or rogue

My clan has killed Snorri with the average lv in the group being 165, because of roots

I use it if I'm running out of mana on rag

and it gives you a chance to get off vines in PVP

I'd say the only bad thing about roots isn't even supposed to happen:
That's the graphics lag, specifically when its slowed by Bolas. Some times the mob doesn't stop!
Root is up, bolas is up, but the mob keeps moving...
And as I type this I realize its more then the graphics because:

Say I'm just out of aggro range of a boss i just rooted. My group is doing the same, so we've created a circle around the boss. If someone on the other side of the circle gets aggro as I root it, the boss will continue to walk toward them and away from me. Remember its rooted, it WAS NOT avoided or resisted. If I say, then, cast vines or lightning on the boss I will start to run after it until I'm "in range"-When all of a sudden the boss appears where I rooted it, I'm right next to it at this point! and I"m dead... So then it's at least two more idols just to get out of the death zone.

Like I said this isn't a downside of the skill, its a costly glitch! I'd love to see this fixed

root is simply nerfed, shield bash and bolas both better. ive tested it too many times, but starting to give up on the skill, just like i gave up on spring of life.

Personally, I prefer Roots nowadays over Howling wind.

1) Howling Wind being *amended* which is not as godly as before. You need pump dex or get high defence items
2) Druids DPS lies in skills, granted we can melee to some degree when we use Hw. Skills are obviously the winner
3) With roots, I can kill all Dragon boss place holders. I cant achieve this with HW on Sreng and Troll.
4) Roots works best for ppl with sigils, You root the mob, vines and strike. While you are waiting for strike to reload, you have time for sigil to click in.
