GrimLocke's philosophy on clans.

#1
Since i began playing CH here on Mabon (IMHO the best server), i have created clans and been apart of clans. I started out making a clan as soon as i could and that clan was GodSlayers. I made alot of friends and learned alot about dealing with the various types of players and how to and how not to gain their loyalty and respect. I found that i was too inexperienced to make this work.. and my good intentions and generosity would soon get the best of me and I went ronin to find myself again. During this time i was approached by a man (SirJon) that i would soon begin to admire and respect. We had very similar ideas of what a clan should be and the morals it should present to the world. The main idea was to have fun and provide an environment for others to also have fun. As you may.. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." This is a very bold way to try and present your clan. He invited me to join Elders and I accepted his invitation.

Now the Elders are an extraordinary group of people. The way they run their clan is different than I have seen clans run. I won't go into specifics, but it was quite an aristocracy. The only problem I could really see was with boss hunting that the group in charge were never on at the same time which made organizing a little difficult or people were on alts and those alts might have been unknown. Once a group(s) had been established we were in such a rush to beat elite the leadership giving orders on the attack was either gone unheard amongst the chaos or just wasn't really there at all. People died alot and elite would take the kill. Unfortunately Elders believed in a very strict 'no ks' policy so there would be no retaliation. (From the looks of it with the newest update ksing has been reduced, not necessarily eliminated.) this created rifts i. The clan and split many members on whether they should go to elite, simply move on or stick around because the love of their clan was greater than their desire to kill major bosses. For awhile i was part of the latter group, but the game began to get stagnant for me and pressures of my real life drew me out of the game for several months. I left Elders and went back to being ronin.

I admit, I have paid for many if not most of my levels and lux items through my hard work and effort in plats. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Both sides have very valid arguments, but i believe it is up to the beholder to decide what is best for them and how the want to play. I found it was affordable to me and quite a lucrative way to enhance my gameplay. My inventory grew as i began to accumulate gear and quest items.. Alot of these items i never use and they sit in my inventory.

During the past few days i began to get people asking me to join Ronin, a few i accepted in just because they either wanted to not be bothered by clan recruiting. A few i just decided to bring aboard because i felt they could just use a hand and some mentoring. Mentoring.. I began to think about that, then i began to think back to the reasons i wanted to be in Elders. I thought about ways i could incorporate that into clan recruitment. I know its all been thought about before.. There are no original thoughts.. Just revisions to ideas already created. Mentoring though.. What if a clan was started by one person who had the means to bring in 2 or 3 people, mentor them, supply them with a little decent gear and get them to the point where that original person began mentoring them? They could then take the place of the mentor and take another person under them. That old equipment that they were given could now be passed down and the cycle could be started over. In time you would have a pretty decent clan where everyone is just out to help each other.. Hopefully without greed. (Big hopeful)

This is just my philosophy of how a clan should work and recruit through my experience. A few clans are probably on the same track.. Many are not.

In closing.. I hope every clan has success in its own way.. But remember, what makes a clan are its members and how the interact with each other.. Not necessarily how they interact with the outside world. This is what makes Elite and Elders successful. I am sure Wolfgang is similiar but i cannot speak from experience or knowledge. All of these clans make Mabon special and an excellent server to be apart of and i am happy to be apart of it all.

I appreciate your philosophical investigation on clans,
I wish alot of clans are like that, however, it would be very hard as most people are greedy Etc...
I know alot of high levels that deserve alot more from this game, there were alot of awesome clans back in 2010-2011 (karma, masmar, haven(elite)), but now the game is alot more advanced and all the other clans deformed.

I do agree on your perspectives. However, the chance that all member of a clan are NOT greedy is so utterly impossible that it most likely wouldn't work. Trust me, the lvl 40 me was so greedy that i sold Milkstalks as "Fettles" just to give myself a 400 gold edge ahead of my competitors. It truly is quite sad how the human brain is almost instantly wired in youth to become greedy and selfish (with some exceptions).
