Re: Horn and crown drops

#31
trying to summarize, i see three issues that have been brought up:

1. can people dice for something they don't have the quest for
2. people who hoard
3. not using target lock, but being there at start.

on 1 - i do not think we should change anything. we have pretty good rules now that have been working. They are also easily understood and reasonable

on 2 - getting an item you dont need is somewhat rare. either it comes from a boss where no one of a class was there (pretty rare) or a ph4 you killed (even rarer). the simple fact is, we cannot police and control everything. if we know someone has a red crown they dont need, we should ask them to give it to someone - but we shouldnt go crazy here. if you get an un-needed dl drop, we want to create a culture where it is seen as an opportunity to do something nice and to help someone out. Those gestures are never forgotten and will pay dividends - someday you may get something you needed, or being notified of certain things, or given other types of help. The fact that they will not be sold is really important. but i do not think trying to micromanage it beyond that will work out particularly well - we will just be accusing people of cheating blah blah blah - and nothing can ever be really proven. Pointless drama. Just accept that people are not perfect, but we have rules to minimize greedy hoarding, and move on.

on 3 - I think target lock is reasonable, but if we think we need a vote about being there at start, then we can do that easily enough. it would certainly reward people who camp, which is appropriate. But, if we go with this, be prepared for a lot of drama from people who were not invited or directed toward people who started when they knew others were on the way. it will be messy. After all, if there are a bunch of bosses up, and the group goes from boss to boss, it is very likely that people who dice from boss one will miss the start of boss 2.

Gonna have to challenge you on this, ak. Last I checked, neither Shendra nor I had enough crowns for weapon or offhand, and yet I hear people complaining all the time "it's always blues that drop! Why don't any [my color] ever drop?!" I'd like to know where the hell those blue crowns are! I sure don't have them and I've camped Snorri daily (except missing two days last week for a business trip). I'm in agreement with others that camping is getting damn old. /rant

Aside from that, I'm still ok with people of right color and level dicing. I will say again that any drops I win that I don't need (crowns only now) go to someone else as soon as I can find them. I do not hoard. Nor will I ever sell.

i stand corrected. there are a fair number of boss fights that lack a mage cause you are a fairly rare breed :D

That being said, i cannot think of an good mechanism to ensure those drops will eventually end up with the proper type of character. I suppose you could have someone nominated for Lugh (or someone from each class) and the DM would give/mail that person drops where that class wasn't present. That person would distribute the drops to the appropriate class (presumably based on level and need, or based on a list generated by players of that class).

not saying i think that is a great solution, but it may resolve some of the hoarding complaints. it will do nothing for people who solo ph4's - they will (rarely) get a drop they could hoard.

if we want to go with that solution, then maybe people from each class should nominate a 'guild leader' to collect excess drops of that color and distribute them. The leaders would be posted on the forums do the DM's would know who to mail the drops too. They should be high level players who are mostly DL and who play frequently.

Wow, many important subjects brought up here, and i want to comment on a couple:

I agree with Lukov that there is no reason why those with full DL armour should have a priority for DL wep drops, it makes perfect sense if someone wants to make getting weapon first their priority (more damage gives faster lvling, which in turn gives a better contribution in boss fights).

I do not recognise the picture painted, that players hoarding DL items is a widespread problem in Lugh. There might be some, but most players are generous and help each other across clans. Eventually we will all get there.

Someone suggested to change the dicing rules so that anyone who turns up after fight starts is excluded from dicing. This brings back some really negative associations to the time Falgren was the Snorri king of our time, and where some group owners would shout "no more" when we were four-five in group, just to make sure the chance of getting the drag frag was concentrated on a few players. I think Lugh must be one of the friendliest and cooperatively oriented worlds in CH, and I'd really like to keep it that way. So lets keep lock as the nominator. I'd really hate to see the "hurry up lets kill before anyone else turns up"-attitude get established at Snorri.
