Effectiveness of Defense above 1500

#1
We are all aware of the Strength plateau, and that the stat begins losing its effectiveness at increasing Damage as it goes up.
Because of this, some people have given a rule of thumb that around 350 Strength is a good maximum to consider.

Research has also been done on armor and resistance, and it has been found that at least 400 armor (and elemental resistances) is a good stat to shoot for, and that above that, effectiveness drops off.

In the same way, effectiveness seems to drop off on all the stats as they go up. While Dexterity, Focus, and Vitality always give the same amounts per point to Defense, Energy, and Health respectively, at some point continuing to raise these stats loses value and effectiveness.

I am curious if anyone has done testing on Defense to determine a good top level that maximizes effectiveness at Dodging (dodges, parries, blocks).

Narrowing the field
Obviously a lot of factors come into play here, so let's narrow the field:
  • * My goal is to dodge about half of the autos of same-level mobs.
    * As your tune's level increases, the Attack stat of same-level mobs seems to increase also, so a higher defense is necessary to maintain a certain percentage of Dodges.
Current setup and notes:
  • * I am Level 169
    * With Fast Reflexes, I currently get about 1500 Defense,
    * At 1500 Defense, I currently dodge between 30-50% of same-level mob autos, depending on the mob-type.
    * At my current level, I don't see a noticeable difference when equipping items that raise my Defense to around 2000.
Any input from other rogues who have experimented with the effectiveness of Defense is welcome and appreciated!

Yes defense is linear so you will gain the same percentage of dogdgeing every time you add some. I have about 2k defense when I use fast reflexes and I dogde the majority of melees of mobs my level. It is hard to test since there can be unreasonable rates because its very reliant on probabillity and would be hard to keep track overxa long period of time.

yes strength does drop after 300-350 but i see NO reason to stop adding to it im at 550 strength if i lower it to 300 i lose a good 2 k damage im croms strongest skill hit because i dont hold down my strength my build at level 185 is 370 vit / 10 focus / 200 dex and 550 strength somthing around that but its perfect, gave my friends this build they loved it

Incorrect. The effectiveness of defence decreases as you increase it.

For example:
Mob has 100 attack
You have 1 defence. You dodge 1%.
You have 2 defence. You dodge 2%. (100% increase)
You have 3 defence. You dodge 3%. (50% increase)
You have 4 defence. You dodge 4%. (33% increase)
Etc.
You have 98 defence. You dodge 49%.
You have 100 defence. You dodge 50%. (0.02% increase)

So, as some may see it's non linear. There will be a point when adding defence will have a minor increase.

I guess those are made up numbers but i think its correct, very hard to test but that could be common logic

as for the moron with 550 str, stop saying u will lose 2k dmg cuz of 150 str, last time u said u have 600 str and if u lower 300 u will lose 2k dmg, god... moron

but defence is always good, ofc theres the point of vit, always increases ur health at around same amount

The percentages are correct and I was wrong on that. Although what I meant by linear was that defense per dexterety is constant.

We have a warrior who gets over 3k defence, and he very rarely gets hit by autos from anything that i've watched him tank. Compared to my 2.2k defence who can never dodge a melee from snorri main, i'd say that's a pretty huge difference.

Notice how he said he's crom's highest skill hit? He could very well mean he'll lose 2k damage to said skill if he lowers str which is very believable.
