You do realize that this is an online forums for a game. Congratulations on you hard research and work for double and triple checking your sources. That is some great investigative journalism right there. But my question is what did you accomplish? I could understand if you were working for an NBC investigative journalism team, but you are posting this hard work and great commitment on an online forum for a game.
Though I assume there is a hint of sarcasm in your post, I do thank you for your compliment. I appreciate it.
On a personal level, derp, I accomplished the protection of my integrity. You put words into my mouth by saying that I said that Christian nations are "bad and torture-filled" (which I did not), and then essentially called me a liar by saying the stats I showed were BS (which they were not). I assume if placed in a similar situation, you would also feel the need to defend yourself.
More importantly, however, if I was able to help correct some people's misconceptions, I would also consider that an accomplishment. I'll expand below, but part of my nature (and indeed my career) is to help people think more critically. I was originally responding to Rochoh's post, but it is a rather common misconception. I like Rochoh. I think he is a good person, and expect him to lead a moral life according to his faith. I offer him nothing but support on that, and hope that he will be able to do that while honestly thinking and reflecting on what he hears.
I suspect that you also (if you had the misconception to begin with) will avoid claiming that the percentage of Christians in a nation is directly linked to less crime... because we can see that isn't the case.
But I will say this again: that is all I was correcting. The data I provided only shows that particular statement is incorrect. It says nothing about causality, and in no way implies that Christianity is the reason. No honest person would claim it is. It also doesn't show anything about a lack of Christianity in the ten worst nations. For all we know, those 10 nations might be worse off
without Christianity. Perhaps Christianity has curbed crime in those countries. We may never know... but it certainly is possible.
PS. You really had such a great defeat of a mentally unstable combat vet. I tip my hat to you.
I am sorry you feel that way, derp. I have never viewed this as a win-loss situation. If we must think about winning, I will say that I aim for win-win. I mentioned our respective backgrounds in another post we were involved in. I guess this is the same: we simply have different perspectives on the purpose of dialogue. I understand if your military background would have you think this was a defeat. As for me, I am a teacher and consultant. I view these exchanges as education and progress.
Yesterday I corrected about 250 homework assignments for example. Did I "defeat" my students by correcting their work? Or did I help them by correcting their mistakes? My hope is that I helped them, and that they will no longer make those mistakes.
(Please don't think that I am trying to patronize you or anyone by saying that. I am not at all suggesting that you are my student. I am merely trying to show you my thought process in all of this. ie. I didn't defeat you at all. We merely had a dialogue with some unfortunate misunderstandings along the way.) And we have had this sort of dialogue before. I like you, derp, and I quite enjoyed hearing your point of view, and looking into your recommendations... I am not sure why I seem to have offended you so much in this thread. I am sorry for that.
If you could point your willingness to go the extra mile and severe dedication in the right direction, this world could use someone like you.
I appreciate that very much, derp. Just so you know, my effort here was only a fraction of the effort I put into my lessons and workshops... but it followed the same concepts. With any luck, maybe some of my passion and dedication will rub off on some of my students. Maybe one of them will even be able to come up with a solution for the countries I mentioned.
