questions for higher levels mages ( ice buil for dps prefera

#1
Alright, so i have a mage level 30 with the following equipemnt

silk shirt ( one from dustwither)
woven pants (the ones you can get from castle shop but woven)
scorching brand ( 35 heat damage offhand)
regular torch from the past event has a proc skill
quest shoes and gloves and hat
and my skills are
ice attune
ice shards
ice blast
dont know what level
and e sheild
any ways i have all that and i guessed that you need ice resist to deflect a bunch of damage from skills from mages but what ive noticed is that i do the same damage on a warrior with the dauntless quest armour level 30 as i do on level 30 warrior with full ancient plate armour ( i tried this on my alt) and i do the same ammount og damage 200-300. what going on the dauntless armoyur has no ice resist .. does it?     ive noticed this is killing my pvp because ive noticed it does the same ammount of damage and depending on what wep the person has its not 2 hits anymore and instead 4 and i fnd myself running away.. what am i do bad my tactic is this

e sield
iceshards
iceblast
frostbite then im running away
so yeah what have i screwed up badly ? should i change to fire ?    :(

If you want to be full ice i would recommend going hybrid as long as possible and then going to ice. ITs easier when you have a lot of skill points, which you get as you lvl. *relatively easier, still super incredibly hard. Also dont use a mainhand torch. When you get to 50 or so kill connacht mages, until you get a connacht wand, then use that for a while. stick with that offhand torch though. Also if you want to do pvp, ice mage might be one of the worst to play. Mages in general need time to cast. ice attacks tend to evade a lot, so if your attack evades, your left wide open for opponent to attack for like 20 seconds. If your attacks do hit, ice attacks will hit strong, but if they were not enough to get the kill, again you would be open for attack.

Good news, you have the skills to make ice very easy to lvl with.

To cut on energy cost, max ice attune first, then you will want to split points up between eshield, ice shard, ice blast, and frostbite. Also put points in lure of ice at half of your max (total allowed). Survival and energy regen are key at low lvls, you could hold off on putting points heavy into ice shards and ice blast for a while as long as ice attune is maxed. You will do decent damage from ice attune alone. Save up gold for a master grimoire or a trident, the trident gives 190 defense!! But the str doesnt work for magic wands. The master grimoire is preferable because of the focus but the trident will help keep you alive longer. At low lvls with ice, you can 1 to 2 hit kill things and as long as eshield is up, you dont have to worry too much about health.

My Frostbite at 45 does more damage than my iceblast with ice attune at 45 and costs 100 less energy to use. Recharge + cast time for ice blast is around 30 seconds (i have it in a spreadsheet somewhere). I am encouraging mages to only max 2 skills for leveling builds until they reach 180. The 2 skills are attune and shard for ice, or bolt for fire. Use lure up to half your max, Then splitting the remaining points into 3 skills which are the dot skills (incin or frostbite, eshield, and aoe (blast or storm)

Remember that ice is less dps and more risk of evades hurting you. Fire is superior in almost every way. I am running a full ice dps build and it can not come close to matching my fire dps build on dragon lord bosses.

They balanced ice after update4, but then nerfed the damage output for ice because it was lethal for pvp, and did not alter the recharge to make up for the loss of damage.

I always tell everyone, Ice is more risk for less damage per second, it is a sad fact.

But ice is great for leveling from lvl 1-90. Probably the best.

I believe the concern with having such a strong blast is rooted in pvp balance. But the problem is that the recharges on ice are designed for much stronger damage. Fire Bolt casts 2x faster than Ice Shard and does around 70% of shards damage. You will do 140% more damage with firebolt than ice shards during the same amount of time. Another bonus of fire bolt is that an evade only hurts you for a short period which you can recover from. Ice shard's cooldown makes an evade unforgiving.

Ice is more risk for less dps. :(

My best build i've discovered for Fire leveling and farming bosses is using only a maxed fire bolt and fire attunement, then splitting the points into cloak, incinerate, energy shield, and firestorm. I know a lot of people recommend maxing firestorm, I used to. But I've discovered that a incinerate actually does more dps than firestorm, so when you cut both skills in half, you get the same dps as you would for a maxed firestorm at a smaller energy cost. A firestorm around 49 costs over 600 energy!!!! I can solo Killian and the war beast trainer without using platinum items. My current build will not win me the kill at boss fights, but it does decent dps. Cloak does amazing dps when used on the tank during a boss fight. It's also a good farming skill for pirates.

I've eliminated energy problems for my mage and greatly increased survival with 300 defense and 135 hp regen. I also wear a bear helm resist to match the opponent I'm fighting. I have 350 crush and 300 pierce. They both help a lot in pvp and with ring bosses.

I'm sorry to disappoint anyone considering ice mage, but fire is far superior over ice. I hope OTM doesn't read this and consider nerfing fire, I would rather see them buff ice by reducing cool downs. Mages have a very difficult time keeping up with rogues in dps, especially when rogues can use haste.

Mage's biggest weakness is survival and energy recovery. Traveling to fight worms from the Deep Caverns leystone is a nightmare.
