Re: A discussion about religion
#552Lol. Both have the same level of evidence - and thus truth to them. I'll leave it up to the reader to figure the rest out.Except there is for one, not for the other.

Again, you are so closed minded! Where's the person Im speaking to? All I see is a wall.
Decipher that. :/
Re: A discussion about religion
#554My answer is there is a large difference in being open minded and open to ignorance. Some can't see the difference.Lol. Both have the same level of evidence - and thus truth to them. I'll leave it up to the reader to figure the rest out.Except there is for one, not for the other.

Re: A discussion about religion
#556Thanks for clearing some stuff up, RedDogy and Aggra_Tetch.
@Robert
I understand the background of free will now but I am still confused about what does it include. Is it free will for humanity or each person has free will? As I had mentioned earlier, I am sure victims of mass crime had the will to escape and it was not their will to die or suffer. Also, part of the confusion in the story that I still do not understand is why did God interfere AFTER eve ate the apple, as seen in later stories in the bible, and then not at all anymore?
@Aggra_Tetch
So God is the idea of love? That requires love? Is this part of Christianity or another religion? What I disagree with in this perception is associating a being with a specific idea, unless you had something else in mind. I apologise if I am interpreting your response incorrectly. I find that I am capable of loving a person, idea, etc, without the need to see it as an entity. This is an interesting concept and I really do appreciate the fact that you mentioned the possibility of humans not being able to fully comprehend an idea. That is something I believe is true of all things and another reason why we should remain open to infinite possibilities.

Re: A discussion about religion
#557Oops, I missed this. Responding now:
About that burned to the stake story... When was that? I have read more stories of religious led burning of women thought to be witches, chopping the heads off of those who were radical enough think of different possibilities other than what the church says, etc.
That last line is a tad weird... The goal is to try and explain everything by seeking out new possibilities outside of what we are given.
I am not really sure you can call someone weak minded for any belief. In my opinion, a person is in fact weak minded if they can not bring themselves to try and understand other beliefs rather than shut them out. There are arguments of being weak minded for believing in the bible and having so much faith in such an old idea but then also arguments of being weak minded for not accepting the possibility in an ancient power or something so unknown that it can only be recognised by scripture.Atheists are those who are too weak minded to believe in anything greater than what we currently know- so 2000 years ago anyone who thought that we someday fly on a metal bird would be burned at the stake because he was mad- so atheists, are you Seriously trying to explain everything with your current knowledge?

People that chose to ignore mountains of evidence to take comfort in unfounded (no evidence) beliefs that directly contridrict the evidence are almost by definition weak minded.
Here is the Wikipedia definition:
Weak mindedness is the state of being easily impressionable or possessing a weak sense of self-will, judgement or conviction.[1]
A weak minded individual's opinion may be easily swayed by propaganda or emotional manipulation tactics, as they do not possess an adequate ability to judge or discern the quality of an assertion, or they may exhibit a lack of discipline.
Weak mindedness can result from several factors, including but not limited to lack of education, lack of critical thinking skills, lack of interpersonal experience or understanding, or developmental disability.

Re: A discussion about religion
#559^ I Edited the following response
I did some digging and, when used in the right context, weak-minded can also refer to the lack of intellectual capacity which can be interpreted as not being able to fathom or consider a complex and controversial idea. You are still correct though, the proper word that I should have used would be "closed-minded" which goes along with the idea of accepting multiple possibilities.

Re: A discussion about religion
#560No problem lol. It was meant more for other readers anyhow.^ Actually, you are correct, I was using weak-minded incorrectly because the person I quoted used it incorrectly and I went along with it. I meant to say closed-minded. I will edit my response right now, thank you.
