Re: New Mage looking for advise

For wands, just go for the bonuses. Don't worry about the damage.

As for your skills, try to stay either fire or ice and make sure you put a few points in either fire or ice lure. This will make your spells deal more damage.

Wands are not very important as you go through the game. The majority of mage damage is from skills. 99% skills and possibly 1% of a random melee you may do. Keep in mind, sigils are almost mandatory at higher levels so wand melee would get in the way of your main damage.

At your level, you really should focus on just the bonuses. Try looking for wands with procs, resist, skill points, and health. Towards endgame, you will find wands with focus which would also be preferred as focus boosts your skill power.

You should focus on either fire skills or ice skills. Ice mage is really dead in the water so I suggest you stick to firemage. That is firebolt, firestorm, fire attunement, lure of fire, and incinerate. The two most important side skills are energy boost and energy shield. When you start running out of energy or you find your hp depleted too quickly, use those skills respectively.

I believe a good model build would be something along the lines of firebolt, firestorm, lure of fire, fire attunement, and energy boost. Skill points are very limited at the very early levels so maxing these will most likely not be possible. However, having some skill points in all of them should allow you to level and go through long fights.

Excellent post. I would just add/amend: "Keep in mind, sigils and/or energy regen lux (with boost as a supplement) are absolutely mandatory at higher levels so, if you go the sigil route, wand melee would get in the way of your main damage."
