A Moment of Epiphany

#1
So I know this story is not mine, it one shared by others, and my telling of it is not unique; however, I still felt the need to verbalize it. As I sat waiting at a DL boss this morning, not one of the high ones where everyone hangs out, but one of the lower ones, I thought to myself, 'today will be the day'.

As I waited, I decided to peruse the forums and read about double dicing, triple dicing, lists, greed, blah, blah, blah.

I went back and noticed I was still waiting alone after twenty minutes. I checked my DL needs list: Everything other than four gems . . . I started hearing whispers of how no one needs eggs anymore so they aren't coming to the boss . . . and I had a moment of ephiphany . . . I quit :) I will never, at this rate, get any of the eight eggs I need. No one shares, I see multiple player alts outfitted at lower levels than me (their prerogative of course), and . . . I quit.

I will return. I will monitor the forums until the day when I can buy the items I need, or until a day when players truly share, or when the game fosters some level of entertainment or enjoyment. I know I am not the first to leave over this quest, and I know I won't be the last. I also think I will play a new class when I return.

Have fun all!

Hi there Pinter...

Take a break, sort things out...
If you do decide to come back, here's what I suggest:

1. Know the spawn rates of the DL bosses if you don't yet. That way you need not camp that long and you can enjoy doing other things (like picking up red pressies, do candy cane quest or anything that gets your mind off of DL). You can actually ask other players who religiously camp these bosses if they just spawned then you can set a timer for it. Just take note that these bosses can be either be very late, very early or on time. Setting your expectations will lessen your frustrations.

2. Get a DL buddy, preferably someone working on the same items as you. I’m volunteering my Gen, Fiona, she may be not on a lot or afk a lot but she is reliable.

Most of the players I know prefer calling for help from those who are not the same class as they are. So it's your choice to make but personally I call everyone eligible, we dice anyway. Faster kills, faster spawn rates.

3. Be creative...take this example: Snorri camping ranges from 30 mins to an hour... a lot of time to kill right? I personally use this time to catch up with clannies, ask them how they are, organize my backpack, chat with my fabulous girlfriends in CH, try on different fashions or just fool around with the other players camping.

Some pieces of advise from your noob friend in Lugh. :) And if you do decide to come back I volunteer to be your Snorri buddy if you want.

Hi Pinter,

Sorry that you feel this way. I am not sure who's been whispering in your ear, but based on my experience of trying to complete DL, most DL spawns are killed within a short time. The main exception being the fingals dragon that only drops gems, and the fact that the spider queen is a costly kill so it takes time to round up a decent crowd to kill her. Both boggan dl bosses drop eggs, and the biggest obstacle against sharing of dl drops is returning speculations about possibilities of selling them. My experience is that people shar, but DL is meant to take time and it does. Therefore you are doomed to frustration if you have DL drop collection as you single most important aim in playing.

Take a break if you need, but come back and have some fun playing, you dont have to camp;-)

I feel ya, after a couple months of camping dl bosses i have 1 egg,2 idols, and 4 gems... I can't get any help for the spider or boggans from my clan and everyone else already has dl gear on their alts... People with full dl armor are still dicing for drops even though they don't need so they can give to their friends or alts. I'm not quitting yet but it's starting to cross my mind

Hey zombie :)

I will try to find you to give your brace back :) I think you lent me riftskull one?

It is very hard right now in Lugh. I will propose one idea i had. I was thinking of posting a message for those interested of starting a dragonlord gearing clan. It would kind of be a clan that only focused on dl armour. I think for many armour is more important than even bothering to worry about the snorri camping game right now. It would kind of work like this.

The logic is that since (as far as I know) lugh is mostly a cross-clan sharing system, meaning many clans don't actively focus on gearing only their clan members and will share with anyone, a clan could be started with the sole purpose of gearing its members in armour. The fact of the matter is that it is very difficult when everyone shares, or says they are sharing, or outfits their alts, and you are sitting in the clan not progressing. Everyone is entitled to do what they wish but I know for many who never seem to get shared with, this can be frustrating. This is of course no attack on the relationships of people in lugh or how they choose to play, it is just a matter of fact for many right now.

So for this clan Anyone above level req for dl would be free to join this clan. Since many of those in Lugh who are already geared dont need, they would stay in the clan they are in obviously and they would be free to help with bosses if they wanted, but wouldn't need to feel obligated. If they wanted to let one of their alts join the clan then they could do this though. Basically, the sole purpose of this clan would be to camp, kill, and then outfit its members with the low level dl drops : gems, eggs, idols, etc. this way there would always be people to call to help you take down the ph, and hopefully always have enough to tackle the bosses.

Now you would have to leave your current clan to join this new clan, but, once you were outfitted, you could go back to your original clan. Since so many new members are actively seeking to outfit themselves, this clan would most likely always have a revolving but fairly large base of dl boss hunters. Such that the clan would not have to rely on the kindness of strangers to always come help, but would have enough people that they could kill say the spider or wyvern on their own.

We have very many very nice high levelled players in Lugh, many use idols, restos, lixes, etc. very often, just to help low levels with these bosses. I know damn well some of them must get tired of this though. With this new clan, it would kind of be like when the update first launched and those high levels who help now, first had to do it on their own with no high level help. To me this creates more challenge, more fun, and more engagement in the boss fight. Obviously anyone would be able to join fight and dice, but there would ideally be enough low levels connected through clan to get the call and come help.

As for dicing, all of the same rules would apply, any clan could obviously join and dice, but if the members of this new clan got a drop, then the drop would immediately go to the outfitting of members in the clan. There would be a clan bank to this end open to any one in clan, and I would think that the highest, most active members would get outfitted first. Most active members in the clan across time zones could be generals (until they are outfitted and leave) and would have to be trusted to make fair decisions on who get what drops. Alternatively, any clan member could keep the drop they get, but any that go beyond what they need would be passed along to the next clan member. Since the most active and highest level would get outfitted first, they would be the first ones to go back to their original clans, and this would also encourage those lower to be active and level themselves up :)

I think a system like this, if implemented properly could do well to outfit the most people the fastest, at least for boots, gloves, etc. There would obviously be a disparity between colours of drops and some builds would get outfitted faster, but we all chose to play the toon we play with both advantages and disadvantages in mind. I like levelling my rogue faster than others, but I also know there are many many rogues looking for the same drops as me.

There are obviously many holes in this idea and it is one that would require a fair about of goodwill, honesty, sharing and moral integrity; but, these are qualities I have seen in lugh many, many times :)

Well now that I have brainstormed this post here instead of doing my job .... Lol maybe I will go online and run this idea by some people.

Lukov if you read this I really appreciated your post and your spot on observations of the state of Lugh over the years. But i do think that Lugh is still a very kind, and open world, and we can all get along if we are cognizant of the importance of goodwill and fun in what is essentially a game about playing well with others.
