I believe that players should try not to be too greedy when it comes to bosses, but organizing a chaotic mass of players into an orderly queue is next to impossible, and inevitably there is ALWAYS someone who gets left out on a boss hunt. Here is some advice to help you improve your chances of netting the 'big fish':
1. Be polite and friendly - always. You will have a hard time finding help (if you need it) if you are coming across as a rude or vulgar A-hole.
2. Make friends to help you kill the boss. Druids are essential if you don't want to spend a ton on platinum. See step one to increase your chances of making friends.
3. Don't Shout! If you shout out "so-and-so is up" the sharks will smell blood in the water and you will get muscled out. Camp there if you see the boss, call your friends (see step two) and hope that they get there first, because the bottom line is - whoever can assemble a capable party to kill a boss and get them in position first can take the kill if they want. Worse yet, there is diddly you can do about it. save perhaps quickly assembling a stronger party and trying to 'steal' it (which won't help you on with step 2, btw).
Note: If your char is not within 20 levels of the boss you want to kill (closer is better) and properly equipped, go train abilities, level up, and save gold to get better gear. The bosses are tough (and costly) even for people of equal or higher levels than the bosses, so people are often less inclined to party with ill-equiped or skilled players. Once you get within range, start at step 1.
Hope this helps! Good luck out there!
