What's missing?

#1
Lugh, a once united world, free of greed, selfishness, hoarding, and anger. I have watched this world spiral down in to the depths of chaos. I have even seen many good people quit, i have watched requirement be set and be rewritten, i have watched as our unity slowly dissolve into the politics of our rules.

We once had a game where a level 60 druid was allowed to heal in a group for Rockbelly no questions asked, we once had a world where a rogue 30 levels below a boss could get into the boss for the quest. We once had a world where our kindness kept our world sane and void of greed. Excluding our fellow scammers.

I watched as an update came around. And saw the seeds of greedy spread their roots, engulfing the minds of many of our players. Colours defined our lives, red, green, purple, blue and yellow, these colours i watched as they forced people to plat, forced people to desperate measures, just to gain these. Then i watched as we reunited as a world to kill Aggragoth. I watched as levels 60-152 came no questions asked, everyone young and old. Even though the dicing reqs were 100 for druids 130 for rest. No one complained. We managed, we killed, we reunited.

Then Aggy became a regular occurrence, i saw drops going to high and low, people get annoyed because they didn't get a drop, because their clan didn't get a drop, because they weren't notified. Hell, i watched zerkers attempt a few Aggy kills zerkers only. It had seemed as if greed had started to sprout in Lugh's heart, forcing everyone apart.

Then i watched as the requirements restricted further and further. Watching people get greedier and greedier, i watched as our worlds spiralled deeper and deeper into chaos. I watched as our world lost its unity.

Then beta came around, i enjoyed this, i saw our unity from our old players, Voldemort, Akbar, even a new person to the scene Longcool. We all knew each other we knew we could help each other and we did. In game and in beta. I watched and hoped our unity could once be restored, and looking at the update it seemed as if Lugh's unity would soon be put to the test. Bosses became harder, drops became scarcer, and still our player base remained the same.

As i saw the update go live. I gave everyone plenty of warning of how difficult the new bosses were. I wrote a "Boss Bashing Bible" it gave a brief description of how to defeat the bosses. Many used this as reference. And so we reunited as a world, i watched as clans from far and wide helped with bosses, helped with levelling, even lower levelled players helped. Our world at peace once again.

Then our player base dwindled. I saw new clans, new faces, new plat buyers. All expecting to be treated with full respect, all expecting everything handed to them on a silver platter. I watched as our unity drifted further and further from our reach.

But whats this a light, a new challenge for Lugh to overcome. Hrungnir, once again i saw a sliver of light a sliver of unity. We reunited once again. We continued to work together killing this boss. Everyone who would help could, but i still watched as these new faces climbed higher and higher, expecting the same respect as the older players had, simply because of their level.

So, i said to myself, i need a break. After 2 years of almost non-stop playing, i needed a break. So i did, i refused to play for 6 months. 6 months of no greed, no unity, no selfishness, no anger. It was relaxing. Not knowing how many people quit, or even how many also took a break.

I came back, 6 months, what has changed, not much. I was greeted with kind regards, so what do i decide to do, level. I levelled, and levelled hard. In 2 weeks i was at 170 on 2 accounts. Now i do work, i do have a social life. But i did it. As i did this i didn't notice Berserkers, once the most powerful clan teetering towards extinction. I watched as old faces joined new faces, i watched as these old players slowly change. So, i had an idea. Make a clan of the closest friends in the game. Yoshi, Daisyboo and i decide to leave the now inactive Berserkers, and create a new clan, Amity.

Not long after doing this. I continued to level 175 next, my first dicable Hrungnir. How fun it was. Exhilarating one would say. Then our first Mordy kill came next, 180 with full Dragonlord Armour, was the requirements. Once again that glimmer of hope i once had seemed stronger than ever, clan together with clan, old player new player, all helping one another. Our unity seemed restored.

But whats this, suddenly a clan wasn't needed. Suddenly they started being excluded, suddenly greed's roots took hold once again. All of a sudden a fight broke out, clan vs clans, no friendly pacts, just opposing one another. So each clan took a boss each. Hrung one side, Mordy the other. I watched as greed, now at its highest point, start to constrict the unity out of our world. Not to mention the DL drops, these colours reappeared, red, green, purple, blue and yellow. People keeping drops where they shouldn't, people not calling clans, people offering outrageous trades of dl drops. But luckily our gold was never allowed to be a factor.

I watched as people refused to give drops to people who were close, i watched as people who don't need drops win them. I watched as people failed to repay people. Now i watch as extremely rare drops be restricted further, i watch as boss reqs get restricted further, i watch as our world continues to spiral down into chaos.

I know of a few people exempt from this, i know i may be a hypocrite in some places, i know most of these have been "voted" for. But honestly 2 pages of votes is not a majority of the population. I wish for people to open their eyes, open their hearts, show sone kindness, show how well united our world can be. Come together, defeat Necro, defeat the greed of ages and make our celtic heroes life happier.

+1

i notice the level 180+ seems to ignore the level 50-120. when we ask a level 180+ to help kill a boss for quest. they respond saying "busy" or "nty". feels like Lugh is not the same anymore. I was not like this before the update. but there are still some nice people around.

I have been helped by quite a few lvl 180s on lower end mobs... and even given the drop if it was something I needed. Just last night Dalegend left the group on The All Seeing so that I could get in the group for my quest. There are still some capable and willing people that help, but I understand where you're coming from. Until CH goes to a more PvP oriented game, I see no need for such greedyness and lack of willingness to help one another out.

Ahhh, nostalgia isnt what it used to be;-)

I remember people racing on their carpets and with their golden boots to reach Falgren before the dragon frag hunter group was closed. I remember competing groups trying to get the kill and drops. I remember boss kill stealing. I remember being asked to leave boss groups because I wasn't strong enough to make a difference, and I remember standing on the side throwing heal wounds at those fighting until I had earned the invite. I remember people showing up at a mob they had killed in group before, claiming they needed the kill for quest and would give drop, getting drop and logging off. I remember dragon discs being sold for 140k, and players lvl 60-90 complaining about top clans farming warden/meteoric bosses and pushing prices up.

Now I see people turning up for each others in wyvern quest kills they don't need, lending each other gear and giving away drops they don't need, watching lower lvl players backs as they do their arena quest.

Yes, Lugh doesnt have a small handful of elite players to dictate the rules anymore, the number of people who need their DL drops is high and growing, with the tension that situation creates. I still find Lugh to be a constructive world, trying to find fair solutions to whatever new challenges that appear.

What is the most optimal boss group lvl rule? Boss lvl -10? Being able to solo an add? Being able to tank the mob or keeping the tank alive? Having certain gear (e.g. full DL armour)?

I don't think it is possible to find one single solution that fits all mobs and all players. This does not mean that Lugh is spiraling into chaos.

I agree with Lukov to the extent that any new rule is a new potential conflict waiting to happen, and rule changes as quick fixes to any perceived unfair situation for some may not necessarily result in a long term improvement to the climate on Lugh. Especially if the new rules are mainly to the advantage of the elite, and therefore will appear to be to the disadvantage of those not belonging to the elite.

That leaves one question, who wants more rule changes?

Honestly before update, during my timezone very little of this happened, we killed in harmony, we accepted if we didnt get kill, and we bought/sold our drags for the set price of 100k. It was fun for me. Maybe its the endless grinding/camping/dicing that gets to me but something has changed, maybe its the game maybe its the people all i know is that our worlds harmony wasnt as it was before.

Yes, Lukov.

The need for more coordinated group work and more rules for fair distribution of drops came with Aggy.

Things have changed, Lugh has become bigger, and there are more players, and the lvling pressure is strong. You can still choose how you want to play the game, but the stakes are so much higher.

while i appreciate Lukov's view, my memories of update 2 (and 3 to a lesser extent) are not quite a rosy. You were in the grp of 8 or not. No dicing. If the warrior next to you got the yellow space you had to spend and obscene amount of money to buy it for your BP. And god forbid you ended up in a group by accident and were excited to be in a deadroot kill - then people are swearing at you to leave group.

On the other hand, often times the hard core campers would form a multi-clan group to kill these bosses. but that just lead to other issues as the other groups that were there, often partially from your clan, would get upset.

Then the miracle of dicing. we created rules for having larger groups on these new bosses that required so much. But still, while the new quests were tough, they took a reasonable amount of time to complete.

Then update 4. we created, collaboratively (or as collaborative as we can reasonably be), new rules to better optimize the drops and not have people going broke just to do their quests. some people got a lot of help - but they were people with lot of friends - so maybe that is ok.

We had new bosses - we came together, did our best to come up with generally accepted rules and defeated them.

While i understand some look at all these rules and see downsides, i see them as cooperative way to allow many more people chances at drops and bosses. Do i understand why a 180 rogue might be mad that mordy is 185 lvl req now, of course i do. But i also know there are like at least 40 ppl over 190 and probably 75 over 180. At some point, the number of people eligible to dice for a drop is absurd. And while i was never a fan of the one group system of update 2, at least there was some sort of limiting factor and your odds of a drop - if you were in the group - were reasonable.

i believe so much of our frustration comes from a server that makes strides toward being somewhat egalitarian, but constantly has to face the extreme paucity of of things like crowns and the fact that so many high level and good players are competing for such a small number of rewards. Add onto that how much time has to be devoted to just camping (the most boring of activities, though possibly tied with endless grinding), and of course tempers will run high.

clearly our system is not perfect. but i personally prefer the messiness of our collaborative (or semi-collaborative) system over any kind of autocratic system as we hear about on other worlds.

I am a relatively new player to Celtic Heroes having only started in the beginning of November 2013. When I first started I had no clue what I was doing as most of us didn’t. Along the way I have made and gained friends despite the drag of my real life sometimes getting in the way. Not a lot of the old players or the high level players interact with me honestly. There is no ill will on either of our sides our paths have simply yet to cross. The world of Lugh as you describe it is the only world I have known.

Sadly in my first fifty levels I watched myself and my friends scammed of what little we had not knowing any better. In my next fifty levels I watched time and time again as I helped friends with their quests and never finished my own because they did not repay the favors. Fifty more levels and I began to realize the patterns that lay within the world of Lugh and somewhere along the way I decided even though my toon lives within Lugh she is not to be corrupted by it. I will not be corrupted by it. My friends tend to get angry at me. I have this standard I have set myself to that so few people agree with because its against the unwritten rules of Lugh.

For example if an OW boss is locked and im the leader of the group that’s currently locked the boss and a player shows up who needs the boss for a quest, I group them. I do ask if the boss is locked to be fair to the others in the group if this new person gets the drop not to keep it, and yes sometimes they scam the drops anyways, but honestly quest progression is an important part of the game and there are many many times the other players do the right thing and hand over the drops out of the simple thanks of being grouped. This is not the norm of our world but I myself am only trying to help. I do apologize to anyone this may have ever angered. If you see me soloing a boss you need or ever see Nate or myself trying to kill anything even if its locked ask to join the group.

Why? Well, just so you all know, both nate and i try to show up to every boss fight we are invited to. For myself I honestly feel with as much as folks have actually helped the both of us along the way there is no reason why I cannot take the ten minutes of my time to stop what little I am probably doing to contribute to that dwindling number of drops in hopes that in the long run it does help someone else finally get what they need. Theres been too many times people have stepped up and helped me for me to turn my back on them as others have done to me in the past. We do honestly only want to help no if ands or buts to it. If you see us at stonelord theres a good chance we are simply trying to get a purple quest for Kyna or getting orbs for ghost and comet. If you want to join we'd love and even appreciate the help I mean that rock is really mean. He just kicks you right in the face. :P

When I am lucky enough to get a drop, there is rarely a time I sell them or keep them. The bigger drops like aggy’s of course I am trying to win like everyone else and often times may find the want to keep the item. But DL drops which I just started doing and quest drops like mind slate? No I do not hoard them for myself or even for the gold if they are needed by another player in fact I refuse to do that. I personally feel if the item IS needed or wanted by another player why should they have to beg or in some cases pay for it. To me, as a steady solid player in this game, there will always be another drop and there will always be another chance to gain these items and there are people in this game who HAVE played a lot longer, who have been trying, who do need the items that I feel SHOULD come before my want of gold. Of course I do not have the best lux or the best items in our world and I am almost ALWAYS broke but you know what I dont play the game for gold and I get by just fine.

I have nothing but respect for the older generations of players who have stuck with our world despite all of its flaws. It’s the loyalty and the dedication I see in those players that I myself hope to one day accomplish within myself. Yesterday I finally hit level 160 and every day I plan to help where I can and level as much as possible because I know at the end of the day there are many good, dedicated, hardworking high level players that should get the help that they not only deserve but have showed to others like myself. I am only one person and sometimes people disagree with how I try to be but I know I cannot change our world. I can make sure not to change myself though and I will always hope to one day inspire that change in the new generations of lugh players to come.

On a personal side note I’d really love to thank all of the members who have treated me with such kindness as I have begun my quest for my dragon lord items. Without your help I would not have it at all. I appreciate so much all the help that I have been given and hope that I can pay that forward.
