So what if one English speaking nation calls a 'spanner' a 'wrench'. Is this what we are reduced to now.....educational courses at that level? No wonder that never mind reading books any more a lot of children aren't even able to read or write. An entire generation of 'module' teachers (their minds awash with 'module speak'), have been let loose on young minds. Children become easily bored and distracted (especially in this age of the cell phone and tablet). If you want to engage a child with language then you use it with vigour, humour and you keep it simple. It is true of adults too; no great writer ever bores his/her reader half to death using words like, 'opine', 'semantics', 'oxymoron' etc. We might like these words, but they belong exactly where you learnt them, some summer school run by a bunch of boring old pseudos. I am not suggesting you didn't work hard. I once spent an entire week working hard laying heavy slabs of old stone around my pond, only to discover I had mixed the cement incorrectly (not enough sand). I had the delight of watching it all crack the minute it dried which meant starting all over again, from scratch. I have often had to work all through the night to meet deadlines only to find myself at 6am in the morning binning my work because I know it is not good enough. By our work we gain experience but we don't always get things right simply by working hard at what ever we do. I don't think you are thinking for yourself, but rather regurgitating what you have been taught by extremely limited minds. The reason I say this is because you write exactly in the style of every third rate, pseudo academic I have ever met....and I have met a few. They are all over the damn place.

The very fact that one player who read your post told me they didn't understand it should show you that you need to write in clear, precise English. It is an irony that the very topic of this post, as to the confusion of some game terms, leads you to write a reply that is far more difficult to comprehend than any of the short cut slang that is used in this game!

Yeah, back in my EQ days and in my early 20's I knew all the game lingo. It's funny how a decade can not only make you feel outdated in speech, but style, technology, and everything else in the world that my little nieces and nephews seem to know more than me (and love to make fun of me for). At least my five year old still thinks I'm pretty cool. Hell by the time he's a teenager I hope that doc martins, band t-shirts are back in style again, cause then I'll be back in style and maybe if I'm lucky, he'll still think I'm cool.

Anyway, as a grown up that doesn't have time for all that lingo sh*t, and I'm sick of being embarrassed by kids for asking in game, I've found this site crazily invaluable. I can't believe they have a translator for internet slag, but they do - and I feel it might have been made just for folks like me. www.noslang.com

Oh, and Keri "gateway meat", that just about killed me!
