So i made a mage(im a lvl 105 ranger) and its lvl 20. I need help on the build. It has 35 vit 50 35 dex no str.
I have all the good skills and as i learned from ranger dex makes your skills better so i am doing about 150 dmg on my fire skills. I have hero boots hero gloves a hero ammy and two 9 dmg heat braces on it how r these begining stats? I havnt died since i made the acc(most health lost was 20)
Re: My build
#3dex helps make ranger skills better because those skill are dex based. all mage skills are focus based so increasing focus will make them better. more focus=more energy and more damage. at lvl 20 there aint a lot of bracelets to use, but when you reach a higher level you will want to use different bracelets. heat damage bracelets will only increase your auto attack damage and not your spell damage. statwise you wanna do at least 3:2 focus to vit. i personally have 800-900 focus with around 200 vitality at level 130.So i made a mage(im a lvl 105 ranger) and its lvl 20. a bit of advice at a lower level you can get away with using ice shards and firebolt, however at around level 80 i suggest using an alt book and switching to either full fire or full ice. And make sure to buy attunement.
Re: My build
#4For a leveling build, dex is very important, especially for ice mages (ice mages should be using snowbound cane with primal blade after lvl 100, no exceptions).dex helps make ranger skills better because those skill are dex based. all mage skills are focus based so increasing focus will make them better. more focus=more energy and more damage. at lvl 20 there aint a lot of bracelets to use, but when you reach a higher level you will want to use different bracelets. heat damage bracelets will only increase your auto attack damage and not your spell damage. statwise you wanna do at least 3:2 focus to vit. i personally have 800-900 focus with around 200 vitality at level 130.So i made a mage(im a lvl 105 ranger) and its lvl 20. I think 3 focus, 1 dex, 1 vit is better than 3 focus, 2 vitality. Vitality doesn't help at all when Eshield is up, dex does. Deffense will cause the enemy to miss, which will make energy shield last longer. I believe a leveling mage after lvl 100 should have at least 300 defense (200 from 100 dex, 100 from winterquest boots). Ice helm gives another 100 and a bat charm can add even more.
If you're dodging 20-40% of auto attacks, your eshield will last a lot longer. I always recommend that people avoid leveling on skill based mobs like those in Otherworld. The lvl 105 4 star zombies are auto attack based so defense makes them very easy. You wont have issues with skill based mobs until you're lvl 107 (Otherworld is the only good place to lvl until lvl 120).
Having a heroic amulet and the skills is a huge advantage. If you max cloak of fire and fire attune, you can run around catacombs killing very fast.

Re: My build
#5It all depends on the situation. I am almost never actually attacked head on, and take all damage from AoE spells. Dexterity plays no part in evasions, so it is useless for me.I think 3 focus, 1 dex, 1 vit is better than 3 focus, 2 vitality. Vitality doesn't help at all when Eshield is up, dex does. I understand the OP has just started, but placing blanket statement that 3:2 foc:vit < 3:1:1 foc:dex:vit is just not right.

Re: My build
#6I did say for leveling build. Most druids use howling winds so dex helps a lot with that. For bossing defense is not needed at all.
There will be plenty of times while leveling that you dont have a taunt tank in group.
For survivability, a lot of mages ignore the significance of defense.

Re: My build
#8Thats actually a good point on how to use dex on a mage, but thats if ur a fan of e.shield, can handle the energy cost, and if the shield lasts enough time until the cooldown is over
im not a fan of shield really, it is a good skill, but since mage is costly already, i would rather go full dps, ofc hes low lvl so i dont need shield that much anyway, i enjoy killing mobs in 1-2 hits at his lvl (82), so it doesnt bother me, but shield could save a lot once health becomes more costly than energy.

Re: My build
#10Before I had health sigils, I realized that eshield despite the negatives, saved my sanity. For leveling you want to go to enemy to enemy quickly without having to wait for health regen. My early build is more 1:4 then 3:4 , first max cloak, then max lure (5), then max bolt (5), put some in boost, max cloak again (10), lure to 7, a little in shield of needed, more in boost if needed, then continue to slowly max bolt. Notice I max bolt last. Your cloak although useless later on is so convenient early on specially when the evades start stacking up. I'm not a huge fan of using fire and ice UNTIL you have shield and boost zeroed in to keep up with leveling and you start to have extra points. This usually happens starting around lvl 45 - 50. I always max my cloak first. each time my maximum increases early on.
Buy some sigils if you can afford it. Health first then energy next.. You will need more way more energy then health sigils in the long run but in the beginning its so helpful to have your health regen quickly. If you buy enough energy you will realize that you can take some points out of boost to use for other skills (for leveling). Same with health sigils and shield.
I'm not a fan of ice early on and not much later either to be honest, but especially early on.
I am not a believer in putting any points in Dex Because they seem more useful in health and energy to me although I have no hard data to prove it. I believe in a very focused based mage to increase fire damage, have enough for shield. I think one you hit OW I went back to a more 3:2 setup for leveling.
When I say leveling I mean solo FYI.
IMO mages are OP early on but sick with it and that will change. Lol.
