I don't understand why everyone looks to the past about religion. We are in 2014, where the mindset for absolutely everything has changed.
Almost all your ancestors lived and did evil things just as Christians did back in the medieval times. They were dark ages, and people looked to religion for hope. I bet you 99% of the people who were Christians at the time just did it for hope, practiced none of the customs. Other religions however, have not changed since then. Some Islamic root religions still believe in killing other people to have a good place in heaven, which is pretty awful.
Yes people had only religion to look to because for most of history science and technology either didn't exist or was too primitive, arcane, and inaccessible to the common people.
So you say that people believed none of it (hence not following through on customs) but looked to it for hope? I dare you to make less sense. Religions were and are today used as a tool to amass an empire around and past political boundaries. Thier sole purpose is to gain power.
And by the way Christians, though not as prolific as Muslims, still carry out extremist terrorist activities and love to kill.

A simple google search will take you to page after page after page of Christian violence and murder. Go on invoke the "not a true Scotsman" fallacy but they call themselves Christians and use thier holy texts. No lightning bolts are flying down and stopping them. Oh wait that would be from zeus.
The modern Christian is a much more different kind of person. Just because some people did some things in the past, it does not mean we agree with them. If we had agreed with them, don't you think we would still be burning "witches" ?
Christians at the time had a completely wrong idea, but the human race as a whole evolved, and Christianity with it. So please do not tell me about things that happened generations ago that people of whatever religion today have nothing to do with.
Wtf wait what??? The one true word of god to man is constantly changing? That flies in the face of all dogma. While its true in fact the vast majority of religious people refuse to admit this. Just saying religion evolves makes the majority cringe. Yes we all know it has to be contemporary to maintain credibility but that very act undermines the supposed timeless divine nature and renders the bible a worthless outdated goat herder tome.
Calling a persons ideas is in fact offensive. A person consists of his/her values and ideals, we are nothing without them. Telling me that abortion makes the world have to pay less for one person is a fact, but does that mean that whatever other opinion is stupid and retarded?
The factual answer isn't always the morally right one.
This last block is a jumbled mess of half thoughts and non-sequiturs. Facts and morals aren't really in the same category. And yes when someone believes without evidence things that are demonstratably false they are ignorant and stupid. That is almost the textbook definition.
Reality is anything but an opinion. As if believing a gun can't kill you actually makes you immune to bullets lmao. If you are a fan of fantasy based reality try playing on the freeway with your eyes closed and - if you can - report back how that goes for you.
