Re: An honest question to the OTM loot designer

Yet another response from admin that reinforces the belief that OTM doesnt play their own game.

A level 180+ druid that would cast SV on multiple enemies has a deathwish, never mind the fact that its very difficult doing switching targets. No one really does it unless its a true Area Effect spell like Stinging Swarm or Mages with Firestorm/Ice Blast.

If it took you months to design and anyalyze loot and still came up with this crap, I think you guys need to involve real players in the design process. No offense but theyre really just not any good. Even with your "alternative" view, its only useful if anyone will actually wear it.

Hi there, the specific goal for the necromancer was to create an optional boss that drops alternative types of loot from anything that can be gained from dragonlord quests, mordris and hrungnir bosses. The loot is hand crafted, it's easy to underestimate the work that goes into an mmo but the necro loot took months to design, create, analyse and test. The goal for the game is not to have every enemy drop 'the best thing in the game' but to give players as much choice as possible in how they make or change their builds and how they want to gear up and play for each specific type of encounter. Regarding the item you asked about, there was not another item in the game in this slot that provided a recast reduction on strangling vines hence this is an alternative type of loot that cannot be gained elsewhere, and you can cast SV on multiple enemies.

Every loot isn't going to be perfect, but the necromancer certainly does have some very powerful items including what are the highest dps weapons in the game by a significant margin as well as many items that give significant stats or bonuses that cannot be gained elsewhere in the game for the slot they can be equipped in.
Well, OTM has my sympathy for not meeting players' expectations. I think they put in a lot of efforts designing the necro drops. Only problem is the very powerful items including the highest dps weapons never dropped so far. So, the players have my sympathy. you can design the best and most desired drops. But if they do not drop, it is as good as not having them in your loot table.

Lets just say I have a lvl 98 druid and I couldn't really see myself wearing that even at my level even if I was leveling with a group and casting vines on everything. And not many people would even fit into that category. Definitely a "meh" item. You need to design items for real alternate builds like hand to hand druids, mages, ect. Things that make people say: You know what, having this item I want to level an alt up to 180 to make a fun new build around this item.
A Mage is like a Lamborghini, You don't get one as your first car or daily driver and there are cheaper cars that go faster and are more comfortable anyway.

Why is there even a level req on it? you cannot even use it for leveling lol. Anyways, here is a thought if you have a range party and you can lock a boss in place with strangling vines + skewer would it not be possible for the tank to dodge close combat auto attacks decreasing the need for the defense stat? More dmg mitigation? They talk about all these other builds and I do not see it. Maybe, add extra effects to weapons and skills when they do a critical hit as opposed to a flat +dmg value.
Normal is an illusion. After all what is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.

If we are speaking alternative loot, can i please have an endgame blunt weapon so i can use my rupture build and not this crappy giant swing skill that hits like a wet tissue compared to rupture with a weak ancient bone weapon. Please , i would love some feedback on this.

I was looking at the job req on the OTM page, and it looks pretty solid on paper. On the two available jobs, it was a desire for them to have strong interest in MMO games. This is something that OTM lacks, at least for the ones we see posting on the forums.

I mean, how is it even possible for you not to give in any time to the game you are creating? Baffles me.

Hoping for a day a veteran endgame player decides to go work for OTM.
