Re: Fairest Way to Distribute Raid Drops?

#81
Ail again I'm still kind of not understanding how its figured and bcuz it's not simplified i feel id be screwed. I buy a dark halberd simply bcuz I'll have a higher chance at a void never needing a spear bcuz my dl dagger is better... Wasted item and same with others. Now how about different variations? I buy a dark halberd of foc and a str void drops... Still counts?

Next situation i buy a dark halberd upon beginning of this update and got my 2 rings i want a month or 2 after. Our server still has no void halberd since update and bcuz i haven't bought anything decay has screwed me and i still dont get the halberd.

The issues your trying to solve arent being fixed imo in some cases sure but in others it hurts the ppl who aren't greedy. I think the issues are where point hoarding are bad and I've yet to see why. Your clearly active enough to claim those points so you should have them not worry about having to force buy items to keep your points from going down the drain. The way our clan works is you purchase the item and upon a upgrade drops you turn in the lesser item and receive a portion of what u spent on it back. Essentially a lease or rental agreement on the item.

Yes still counts.

Our DKP system isn't the god of loot distribution. It manages it the best way possible to minimize the issues I've mentioned. If a rogue takes a dark halberd for the sole purpose of getting priority for void, that's allowed and his prerogative. Although there will be a lot of other players taking dark halberds as well as it is a very common drop. In the end, the PR is still used to determine who wins the upgrade, but certainly those without halberds are excluded. A lot of our members don't take an item just to position themselves for an upgrade if another one can benefit, e.g. a warrior can definitely benefit from dark halberds because DL swords suck, so typically our warriors take the mordy spears before other classes do. But that's simply clan culture and not a dkp rule.

Everyone else's points (EP) decay, but your Gear Points (GP) also decays, so your priority goes back up after every raid since your EP increases as well. It takes a long time for points to completely decay using a -5% rate. It takes approximately 6 months of raiding (assuming 2 raids a week) with a 5% decay for points earned 6 weeks ago to completely decay. And if you're continuously active, then decay wouldn't affect you much because you keep earning points anyway.

I don't feel it's necessarily "forcing" members to buy items to prevent their points from going down. Remember, decay not only fixes point hoarding issue, but also bloating & inflation well. We want our new members who are extremely active compared to less active veterans to be able to compete. Without decay, it would take someone many, many months to do so. With decay it's usually about 2-3 months when "active" recruits can truly start to compete for the desirable items, and I think that's reasonable. Our focus is "what have you done recently" as opposed to someone who was active 6 months ago but isn't active now and the more active members, even the new ones, should be on top of the list.

Again, each clan is different and I'm no way saying our culture is the right way. We also have the Upgrade Policy like yours, and yes it's like purchasing a car and then trading it in for a new model with a trade-in value. If you just lease a car - you lose your money (like losing points to decay), so it's better if you buy a car, rather than rent.

Just an example of how well this system works.

The past few months I changed jobs and have not been able to play as often as I used to, I always had highest pr based on activity and raid attendance. When we initiated the Effy pool I was the ranger with highest pr, I have missed only one or two raids but have not been able to help a lot with DL bosses / winter event bosses. We recruited a new ranger in January , she is an amazing clannie, never misses a raid, helps and camps on all dl and any other bosses, I am very happy she is with us I feel she picked up alot of the slack with me not being on during the days.

I have not claimed a drop from Effy as all have been shite for ranger until a couple weeks ago when a void bow dropped. We checked the pr (priority) and found she had just passed me for pr. This happened because of the hard work she has been putting in and my lack of effort (due to rl) She earned this drop, it doesn't matter if she is a newer member, it's clear that in our clan hard work is rewarded.

Btw , we had to practically twist her arm off to make her accept the drop and not pass it to me, in the grand scheme of things our clan benefits more from the newer ranger having the drop than from the guy who used to be super active but can't be anymore. The "decay" in the system made this possible.

I won't say our system is 100% perfect as it isn't but it's damn close, I think Ailerons constant monitoring, tweaking and almost creepy knowledge of the ins and outs of the system is what makes it work so well for us, remember Aileron is a nerd! I also think our clan mentality of "Ava first, me second" makes this system more viable for us, often a clanny with pr will pass an item because he/she knows the next person in line will see more of a reward than if they take it.

Bottom line, if you have a chief who is as dedicated to "fairness" as our chief is, and one that has the time/ability to stay on top of this type of system, then Avalons dkp system is "The fairest way to distribute raid drops"
