As a future end-game player... who knows when I'll get to Hrung/Mordy, I think that if you are of level req. to help with the boss you should be able to roll for an item UNLESS said item is 5-10 levels above you AND there is another player present who has a greater NEED than you and will actually USE said item.
As was stated, if you're asking for someone to help, even if they're a little under the req, but still give some sort of DPS/Lures/Heals, why not include them in the reward of items?
The thing that drew me to Lugh, was the fact that clans helped one another on bosses and there wasn't as much target lock crap going on. Drops are sometimes sold, which on this server, benefits everyone.
The issue that I see with a mega clan, is that those at the top typically benefit more than those at the bottom. I'm not saying anyone on Lugh would do that, but reytch pointed out that greed is a powerful thing. There's a clan on Herne that has had numerous issues with the generals being more worried about gearing themselves than gearing everyone.
Also, a DKP system wouldn't be fair for everyone. Think about people who aren't able to be at every boss to earn their "points". Is it fair to them, that they've spent hours when they can leveling, only to get no boss drops due to RL scheduling conflicts? I'm sure that type of system works for hardcore players who are at every boss fight, because getting that Godly Spear of Pixel Greatness is super important so they're willing to sacrifice RL activities.
What I think makes Lugh great, is the fact that end-gamers actually HELP one another out and LEND each other items that aren't in use. If you aren't using an item, why let it collect dust when you can help out a clanny/friend that will use it? Either sell it to them at a decent price or loan it to them. I've heard/seen numerous people lending Aggy/Mordy/Hrung drops to help out those in need. That right there is what makes Lugh great.
Why not let the lvl 180/185 roll for the Hrung Helm that they will actually USE instead of the lvl 190 putting said helm away in the bank only to be a mantle piece?
Since CH is 95% PvE, helping out others with gear/leveling is more beneficial as a whole.
