Hawkeye, you must have some amazing build/equipment that makes you think rangers don't need tweaking or fixing.
I have a 140 ranger right now, and I'm sticking through it because there's a shortage on my world, DL is easier to get due to low ranger numbers, but the skills suck.
When leveling on lix, the lack of good skills shines forth. I use sharpshot (royal ring + anc. beastbone gloves) which hits bout the same as auto (when it hits) or sometimes a couple hundred above if lucky. Steady aim, sharpen weapons, light heal and the rest in rapid because I have left over points due to no other skill being as useful at this level.
Skill break-down of suckiness at higher levels:
Longshot - Good for a ONE time use on 85% of the mobs. Granted it gives a one time hard hit that pins the target and allows one more auto, but that's about it. Unless you're fighting a ranged mob where you can hit twice, or use bolas (but who does that leveling?) Valid use while bossing, as you're typically not getting hit and can stand at the proper distance.
Barbed - Kinda slow cast, only really awesome with over-maxed skill.
Def Spikes - Sucks balls. Only way it is halfway decent is over maxed AND with assassin lure.
Entangle - Meh.
Explosive Arrow - Damage is mediocre for the amount of energy that it uses, especially when over-maxed.
Conceal - lol
Camouflage - Helpful when leveling around other mobs... but duration sucks and is a waste of DPS
Double Shot - Good for a guaranteed hit, on haste it doesn't make much difference due to cast time.
Bolas - Higher energy, missed a bit, slowish cast, and who seriously uses when leveling and not bossing?
At my level, I don't find many skills useful when lix leveling. I have Sharp Shot at 35/30 but a lot of the time, I hardly use it due to the fact it misses a LOT and hits the same as an auto or a little bit above. It also takes up an auto when on haste lix. I find myself more of an auto ranger at this point in the game due to the lack of "good" skills.
People say that rangers are needed on end game bosses, that's great... but those levels in between need to give potential rangers something to enjoy and actually stick with. Other classes have a lot more fun factor to them with skills that are actually good and more appealing.
