Re: Shrivelwood vs spiritseed set

For casters who choose between the shrivelwood and the spiritseed set, which one is the most useful? I cant seem to decide.

How much difference does 200 focus bonus compare with 1000 ability in fire/ice/magic?

Thanks
I think I will need both to decide. ;)

This is as silly as the poison vs fire set.

Shrive by two miles. Maybe three.

Skill ability follows a square root. Say you start with 1000 focus. Spirt takes you to 1500 and shrive 1300. But the increase in nature magic gives you a massive increase in skill output. 2000-3000 nat magic >> 1300-1500 focus

But dex is really useless on casters. Maybe has a few evades. But goin 200-500 vit is huge there is no vit plateu.

The difference is massive.

I use spirit seed on my rogue with 800 esigs. Get around 3k energy and say goodbye to energy problems with no regen items. I can max my most energy hogging skills and enrg lix regens 3x what it did before.

Shrive is far and away the best caster set.

(Check shrivewood and spiritseed stats at http://celtic-heroes.com/forum/viewtopi ... =4&t=56700)
Shrive is far and away the best caster set.
+1 to this.

Take a look at the total stats for Spiritseed and Shrivewood sets. Both sets give 500 extra energy.

Spiritseed gives 300 dex, 500 focus, 500 health.
500 health is equivalent to 80 vitality.
If you are one of those casters that thinks dex is useful, Spiritseed gives you a total of 880 stat points.
If you don't think dex is a useful stat, you have 580 stat points.

Shrivewood grants 300 focus, 300 vitality, 300 defense, and 1000 ability.
300 defense is equivalent to 150 dex (unless you use attack, but very few casters do).
If you think dex is useful, Shrivewood gives you a total of 750 stat points, and 1000 ability on top of that.
If you don't think dex is useful, you get 600 stat points, and 1000 additional ability.

Overall, if you don't think dex is useful, Shrivewood wins hands down (+20 stats, +1000 ability).

But even if you do think dex matters, Shrivewood still wins. +1000 ability from Shrivewood definitely outweighs +130 stat points from Spiritseed.

And if you still aren't convinced that Shrivewood is better, plug in your numbers and see how powerful your skills are at http://celtic-heroes.com/forum/viewtopi ... =4&t=56130.

The spiritseed is definitely created for the 'alternative build' casters who solo, or choose to be dps. A lot of these types of players would love to have dexterity as like a bonus effect to having howling winds but the problem was that you'd need a good chunk of dex for that to be useful, which reduces your other skills usefulness. With this set it allows these casters to use their full dps builds without even sacrificing a single point into dex(or very little depending on what you like) as it would already be covered substantially.

Using Swan's formulas, here is what I got from each set for Natures Touch using my stats

Spiritseed = 28.89*sqrt(1545) + 8.9361*sqrt(3430) + 452.42 = 2111.34

Shrivewood = 28.89*sqrt(1345) + 8.9361*sqrt(4430) + 452.42 = 2106.71

In power, they really are comparable. I think the biggest difference between the sets are the trade off between dex and vit. one will give you more health, and the other one will give you more defense.

It depends on your base stats ofc. I've seen virtually no one use dex build druids and very few mages. Dex only helps if you are being mele vit helps in any case. Additionally since mages often are low vit, even below 300 at 190 on many builds the vit is likely to increase survivability in the general case.

For druids and probably the majority of mage builds shrive is better.

I do agree that extra vit will help mages, and the ability bonus to fire and ice really will help mages. What i like about spiritseed for druids is that the added defense from dex will keep mobs from interrupting my skills, which i have a very large problem with. If i throw a howling wind on them, they cant touch me. Then i am free to root and run, or just keep healing the tank until dps comes and picks the add off me. I do agree what is best depends on your base stats, gear, and skills. I still am not convinced that there is a clear cut best caster set here, even after plugging in the numbers in the formula.

Wow. 3400 base ability… and only 1k base focus? (base = amount before equipping charm/ring/necklace)
I have 1800 base ability and 1.5k base focus. Shrivewood definitely boosts my damage more than Spiritseed does.

Ok, so the dex/howling wind combo for druids means that Spiritseed is indeed an alternative option for dex druids.

However, the extra ability + vitality clearly makes Shrivewood the best choice for mages.
