OKAY LISTEN UP! *warning this will probably be a slight rant*
I AM TIRED OF HAVING TO GO THROUGH AND DEFEND THE RANGER RIGHT TO FLIPPIN DPS IN A TOTALLY 100% DPS-BASED GAME.
WE RANGERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE MIRROR CLASS OF ROGUES.
ROGUES DIDNT DECIDE TO START CALLING THEMSELVES THE DPS KINGS UNTIL THIS FOURTH VERSION.
THIS VERSION HAS KILLED RANGER AND MAGE DPS.
IF WE HAVE THE SAME ARMOR ROGUES DO WE SHOULD HAVE COMPARABLE DMG.
WARRIORS HAVE MORE ARMOR THAN WE DO. WHO CARES? THEY CAN EVEN OUTDPS US CONSTANTLY UNTIL ENDGAME- AND EVEN THEN ITS DEBATEABLE.
DRUIDS, THE LEAST-DPS-ORIENTED CLASS IN THE WHOLE GAME CONSISTENTLY GET KILLS OVER US RANGERS.
Okay, so now that I got all that out...
Rangers aren't asking to be the best dps in game no matter our gear, build, skills, or level. We just want what everyone else wants (or should want [for their class]) for our class: Comparable dps. If a ranger and rogue have the same build with similar skills, then they should have comparable dmg. instead, in this "lovely" version rogues take it all. The only time rangers have a chance at not being outdpsed by rogues 10-30 levels lower than them is at endgame with the dl quiver. That, in case people haven't noticed, is UNFAIR. THAT IS ALL WE ARE TRYING TO FLIPPIN SAY!
What if a rogue couldn't get quickstrike, lifesteal, and shadowstrike until he was level 180? How about he also couldn't get an offhand? And, for kicks, lets say he couldn't even get fast reflexes til then. If such a thing happened, very few people would be playing a rogue. Now think about what I have said here (rogues, NON-RANGERS in general, and rangers). Think up a good and (please) give me an intelligent response. I know many people (like swan and yakat for example) really are smart and intelligent- though both can be occasionally frustrating just like the rest of us.
What I am trying to say is this: try and walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you judge them.
To translate a little better: Try and play a class before you judge it.
Well based off your sig, I don't think you've reached DL levels or "end game" so to speak. So talking about who gets kills at raid bosses… that would be second hand info for you. But that's not too important.
Ranger skills definitely need to be worth using; there's no debate about that.
The real question is: after rangers get a skill buff, should a ranger's DPS match the DPS of an equally statted/geared/leveled rogue?
In my opinion, the answer to that is no. Range is an advantage in this game, and not just at bosses where rangers stand out of range of AoEs. Rangers can also solo lower level bosses by bolasing and kiting. This is something few end game rangers mention.
A level 180+ DL ranger can solo any 6* boss in OW except aggy without using items. A level 180+ DL rogue, even with maxed reflexes and life steal and the best raid loot for his/her level, cannot solo 6* bosses without using items. The reason for this is that 6* bosses use a variety of skills, mostly close range ones, that reflexes cannot help avoid.
A melee DPS class ought to deal slightly more damage than a ranged DPS class. Yakat didn't make this rule up; I didn't make this rule up. Sacrificing damage for range and vice versa are fairly universal principles in all games.
P.S. Druids getting kills on 6* bosses is an extremely rare occurrence on my world. If you're talking about killing 1*-4* mobs, then yes, druids can get the kill depending on which skills they open with. But if you're talking about 6* bosses, full DPS druids do not get the kill unless something crazy happens. And if for whatever reason, a DPS druid on your world consistently gets the kill on 6* bosses, that means they are also beating rogue DPS.
