Re: An Insight on Class Inequality: Rangers vs. Rogues

Who said warriors secondary role was dps in ch? That's up to otm to decide
Every class in this game has a secondary role of dps except rogues(should be mages as well). And if warrior's second role is not dps, then where are my heals and support skills.
Welcome to the life of a ranger. U Know ur second role is dps since u have dmg skills but more tank skills make ur main role tank. Rangers have more dps skills than support which makes them DPS NOT SUPPORT. support is our secondary role

This is how I see it:

There was a common ancestor to the current melee classes (warrior, ranger, rogue). Across the generations, the buff, more physical descendants chose the sword, the axe, the hammer etc. and showed their might to the world. The weaker descendants took up lesser weapons and used their brains to fight. Slowly they gave two different descendants:
  • The rogue who had no honor and used every chance to cast down his opponent by hiding in the shadows
  • The more open ranger, at peace with nature, the "hunter" who used his experience to set traps, shoot arrows and take down his enemy.
Hence, rangers and rogues are meant for DPS, each doing so through different means.

the problem is the skills. Yes, both are dps and both have supports skills (rogue/ranger) but the lack of strength based skills, in a game that favors skill damage over auto damage puts us at a huge disadvantage in every area. Since auto dmg is str based any class having a strength based skill can out DPS a ranger. The only way to overcome this (and I have played ranger for years, at a high level) is to substitute damage from gear (rings, braces etc) to at least make the toon playable. Even this, however, ignores the fact that rougues also have access to the same rings and braces and can thus take advantage of them as well.

They should make one or more of the current skills str based so that rangers can have a str based skill set. Currently rogues have rip, qs, double, assassinate, rend and sneaky as str skills and can use double. Rangers have only one option, double. They should make sharp shot, barbed shot and spikes or some combination of skills strength based so a strength ranger isn't stuck being just an auto ranger.

Then rangers could choose which path to use, just like rogues can: be a dex rogue and more 'support' (expose, smoke) and some DPS or go strength. Rangers could then choose to be support and use LH, sharpen and so on.

its funny. we talk about the problems in the game as if there was some method behind any of this, some reasoning...but sadly it's just flawed design and poorly thought out concepts put in place by people who 1) don't test them in the actual game and 2) don't listen when people complain.

void sacrafice skulls for everyone! THANK YOU OTM!
Finally... something everyone can agree on!

yakat did. yakat lives in a world where his word is absolute and he speaks for OTM, thus, everything yakat says is correct, and if he says that rogues are at the top since its a universal role, although hes wrong, hes correct.

That was some serious math which my tiny brain can't comprehend but I agree with you. I have played a ranger and suffered for a very long time. After much thought, I switched to a mage and levelled up in half the time it took for my ranger. While i have always preferred being a ranger in all other games, this one actually made me love being a mage.
