Re: An Insight on Class Inequality: Rangers vs. Rogues

Everybody says to increase rogue survivability by losing dps and using survivability skills. Same thing goes for rangers you can afford to lower your autos a bit and make it so tor skills work, you just choose not too.
Skills aren't even as effective with a pure DEX build. That is something that a person who has never played an end game ranger will understand.

Seriously have you guys tried a 2 str 3 dex ranger build? That way you would have some auto and also skill damage. My rogue is 4 str 3 dex and the only dex skill I use is shadowstrike and the setup works well so it makes sense to put a good amount into dex just for the damage skills on ranger.
A Mage is like a Lamborghini, You don't get one as your first car or daily driver and there are cheaper cars that go faster and are more comfortable anyway.

I've gone almost pure dex as a ranger to utilize Sharp Shot... the results? 70% of the hits were just above average AUTO damage.

The only time I have ever gotten Sharp Shot/Longshot to do "good" damage is when I have my lure mage cast assassin's lure on the mob. The questions isn't about changing stats here and there... it's the skills themselves are really weak.

Currently I have DL hands/helm/boots/pants, lvl 160 bow, 150 quiver, Godly Aggy damage ring, Bladeleaf Comrak set, 1700 auto damage, Mighty Longshot ring +6 to skill, 257 direct damage, a Longshot that the skill says 3700 damage and guess what... I was out DPS'd by a lvl 140 mage on Swamp Lord with just one Grand Firebolt ring from this event.

On paper, my ranger "should" have gotten the kill on the Swamp Lord. I was spamming Longshot/Double shot and Rapid Shot lvl 1 whenever it refreshed... pretty sad if you ask me.

Even with a high dex build, Sharp Shot is still crap and misses a lot. Longshot, that's good for a one to two time hit IF you bola the mob or don't have agro. Barbed Shot even with high dex/rings is the same thing... long cast time, mediocre DoT.

The issue we have as rangers, is that if you go almost full dex to enhance your skills, auto damage suffers huge. Even going almost full dex, the dex based skills still only do mediocre damage.

Thank you very much for giving a concrete example. I hope the people arguing that a full dex build class would solve our problems can see that it is not our lack of correct build-setup but a broken skill pool.

@Pigman
How do you feel about my take on damage at an instant vs. damage over time?

Rogues would still be the top DPS but as a function of time rather than the undisputable king he currently is. Additionally, it would make mages the "glass cannon" and raise rangers and warriors' DPS to a competitive level.

I agree with that
Mages should win all short term fights
Rangers and warriors a 5-10 minute fight, rogues anything over that
pigman, with the fury of the pigs and the mind of a man
level 210+ rogue
Morrigan
Avalon
