Reading forums and talking to people in game they all tell me how sharp shot is a terible skill. It seems to me that its an instant cast and doesnt interrupt auto, so not using it is like not using quick strike as a rogue. Why not take the free damage?

It does interrupt auto.

Interrupts auto, energy hog, evaded easily, huge aggro/damage ratio....

Energy hog, evaded easy. Sounds more like mage skills.

Make it instant-cast, strength based and poison damage.

Very crappy skill. I remember using it at lvl150-160 on boggans. I was pure dex build, most points in dex some in vit and my sharpshot was doing extremely low; the only thing keeping me from going over to STR build was decent damage from longshot and waiting on dl helm.

When i compared my auto at lvl160 once I moved over to auto build compared to sharpshot I really wasn't surprised. This is why rangers are such a mediocre class to play with, only way to really enjoy it is with full dl, the best high end gear with an auto build, most of our skills are broken.

I like sharp with the beast armor bonus. I run mid dex points (350ish) compared to str (600) and it hits higher than my auto and casts quick. That and if I didn't use it, I'd have a bunch of points with no where to put them.

You will do more damage and get better exp when you ditch sharpshot and use a full STR build. With a heroic haste, you will be dishing out more damage than you could have possibly done by a slow and evadable sharpshot.

I went to 900 str and my auto was a negligible difference unless I equip an obsidian bow.

I'm thinking maybe having 4.6k hp might be a tad much? XD

It did about the same dmg as my auto so it was useless and it was evaded like 1 out of 5 times
