Re: Noobs and thier "Thrift store personalitys"

I hate how this community puts noob behaviour on the Noob, and not on the community.

You know how you solve all that behaviour that you hate? You take the time to talk to someone, you let them know that spamming and begging and all that behaviour is really poor server etiquette and will get you quickly blocked. You give examples of good behaviour, you instruct how people can learn how to enter into the community and not shoot themselves in the foot on a behaviour level. You take the time to educate and instruct and not simply act aloof and elite, like you weren't EXACTLY like that a number of months ago.

Here's the fact. This game caters to VERY few MMO veterans. Sure some exist, some know how to act and how to play their dynamic group role, but most of everyone are indeed total noobs. It's the nature of a Free2Play game. Looking down on people like you are somehow cooler and better because you don't step in and guide people in laughable to me. And I'm not just talking to the people on this thread, I am talking to this entire community.

I personally enjoy making fun of really selfish people on shout, but I do take the time to talk to people who spam or beg me. It's largely a thin line between taking the time to block the obvious bad eggs, and helping the people who are just unknowledgable.

Sure some people are meant to be blocked, some people are morons and can't be taught, but looking at every Noob as that awful block able player is disgusting, and with the advent of a new update and a noob friendly game. You all need to change your attitudes, because its all disgusting.
Your reading your personal thoughts into this i never clarified nor did anyone else that all low lvl players or people who make the ocasional slip up on these few things that every player finds annoying is a "must block noob" yes some need a push in the right direction but if you read clearly everyone who goes into detail with their exspeirence clearly states the ones that persist in doing what they are doing after you tell or talk to them deserve to be blocked. Calm down Tea its just a friendly ramble for everyone who gets annoyed by noobs (not the new player lost in the celtic world noob, the im clearly not new but i still want free stuff noob)

Sorry, I've never been a noob.
I never begged strangers for items or gold or to level me, or to scam someone.
Yes, I was lv 1 like everyone else, but I fought my way to high levels and actually attempted to get to know people and made friends.
Did need help at times, of course, and there are ways of asking for help that don't offend.
The noobishness I'm referring to is this odd entitlement mentality like im there mom or dad, as if it were my job to help in anyway just because I got more than they do and they went to the ungodly effort of asking me.

Tea your point is well taken, but I'd like to play and not teach, however...

Maybe a sticky post: "How not to be a noob"?......

I guess noobs is the wrong term. Theres a difference between being a noob which I don't mind and jut the stupid lazy players that just want things handed down to them then rant like a 12 year old when they dont get what they want.

I will pull back the confrontation, but the comments still stand.

I came into the game on Arawn and earned every frag I ever had, I was offer'd at lvl 60 a full set of everything but Dragons and I declined. Multiple times, for me the joy of MMO's are the trial of it, the quest of it, and the final achievement of it. Maybe I was a self-sufficient player but I was still noob to boss spawns, timers, game mechanics etc. I had to learn things and people were there to teach me become better.

But you can't expect multiple people to share that same viewpoint, the reality is begging/spamming trade/group/friend is just how newer players are conditioned to behave. Mostly a problem i see on our server is poor starter guild clan leaders, who don't know any better themselves and generate further noob behaviour from their clan mates and develop a counterculture of begging and spamming from all their members. This is just a weird unsavory thing that then starts to permeate in Stonevale. I've talked to many of these players and they all said they just thought it was part of the game. And some of them told me to STFU and could they borrow my ammy to see how they liked it. I don't need to tell you who I blocked.

I personally feel that each server has dominant, respected personalities, many of whom post on these forums. All it takes is a well respected member of the community to pull ya aside and share some nuggets of wisdom and a noob is UN-Noobed. And then shares what they learnt with their legion of noob friend's.

I will remove the anger from my initial post, but I gotta say how this problem becomes fixed is positive peer pressure, you make a point to enrich your community and make the uneducated, educated. Thus better healers, better tanks, and better players exist and they all end up on yer friend's list regardless of clan.

That's just how I see it. But I respect others deciding they just wanna play and not effect their community, that said eventually that effects yer community.

Ya Tea i understand your point and that is much like what i do. My clan i made is more or less a stepping stone for players i teach them how to achieve things on there own i answer thier noobish questions and i help them when i can i teach them what i know and later i see them still knowing and teaching the things i taught them

My clan doesnt grow much cause like i said its a stepping stone they use my clan to get information till they can take the step they need to the bigger clans some do stay with my clan and i am greatful to them but those people who leave and who are taught are great in the future. I guess in shorter terms of what we both said is "A better guide makes a better player"

This mainly directed to those who know better but still persist

Example: In Rosmerta everyday there is some lvl 70 player who is not in a major clan but has been playing for sometime and wants gear shouts "Buying Oak disc 2k" there are some people that shout back "LOL" i shout that "the price for our world is around 10k mate but i recommend finding a clan that can help you after you've earned it" he will say ok. 3 min later he is shouting again and this time he spamms the shout.

The most common i see now these days are decent lvl players lerking arround the leystone in stonvale (60+ is what i mean by decent) they will immediatly whisper you and ask for an absurd ammount of coin. I wont block them ill politely tell them that i do not have the coin to spare that he should kill mobs and sell his drops to gain some coin. if he persists i still will not block i will tell him that he is becoming very annoying and i ask him to stop. If he persist i will block him. Its people who know better that continue to do what they do that gets me.

PS: having the title as the richest man in Rosmerta doesnt help ive noticed that everybody even level 1's know this like the first thing they do is check the leaderboards for most coin and hunt you down for a handout. i shall change the title of this thread to more suit the meaning of it.

I'm with tea on this one. Instead of blocking an "annoying" player tell them nicely that doing tht isn't actually a way to ask for something they need. Just a few days ago I had a random player spam my alt with 30+ times to join a clan. Sure it's annoying but I just told him if he does that to other players he will never get a single player. I later got the excuse.... That wasn't me sending u the requests. I just went with it xD

Yeah it does get slightly annoying and it's becoming more common.

I quite commonly encounter people who try to:
  1. Form random groups with me and when I ask why, they say nothing or just a plain "lvl". I decline, and they persist in doing this.
  2. Trade me and then place an item which I clearly don't need in the window. They then say "3k" and I say I don't need it, and am about to get really annoyed as they say "pleaaaase I need the money"...well sorry, but I need money too and I can't go wasting it!
  3. Think I am the divine money donator. I don't just give money to anyone, neither do I lend weapons and I do not constantly store "gold armour".
  4. Follow you around and attempt to take your kills.
  5. Usually try and do all of the above when I am busy.
To be honest, I have to admit I would love a clan that gives me fragments (which I know will never happen) - but the again, I am under level 80 (hehe  )
In rhiannon frags stay w/ clan, we hand them out to our clan

@Teaweasel: yes, of course I will help them and I always hide that fact that they may start to tick me off after a while. Every user starts off as equal but there are some that persist in begging etc. I never ignore them or anything and tell them in a euphemistic kind of way that they should start to become independent a little bit more. :)
I have to admit, I'm a bit of a noob myself sometimes.

And thanks ^. I may just join RaptureEve if worlds ever merge :D
