Yes looking at it now the majority of us would go back to the old engine because then we can play and we can actually do things without lag and such. However the engine does open up many new features that can be used by otm to improve the game in a next gen way. Right now their problem is the lag, and other issuies cluttering gameplay. Yes it sucks, right now. But in the future it will hopefully improve the game overall. If it ends up not, many many people are going to quit, and otm is going to feel it.
No we didn't need a new engine. There are 1000+ people constantly on a private everquest 1 server that has had no updates for over a decade and more would probably play but it is overcrowded. Games dont need "next gen" capabilities. They need to stick to what they are.
We did need a new engine, the new engine allows Otm to code faster and add more stuff, thereby making them reach those deadlines quicker which we all know they are infamous for not reaching deadlines

What deadlines? Like I said that original eq server is in kunark era still which was released in the year 2000. It hasn't been updated since most of you were born and people are still clammoring to play it.
But don't you see? Eq is a good game.

Allow me to quote the most important part of that comment.

"Has had no updates for over a decade".

OTM is working on building Celtic Heroes into a great game. To do that, they need to make updates (like carrowmore/sewers/fingals in U4, and all the seasonal events), and in order to do that with all the changing technology nowadays, they need the new engine. Especially because this is a mobile game, and an Apple one at that...Apple releases updated devices all the time. Comparing a rapidly expanding an changing mobile market to a steady PC game is really unfair imo lol. If CH stuck to what it was, it would be obsolete in a year or so, and OTM would have spent several years without much to show for it.

Some people have been saying 'we' would prefer the old graphics like you speak for everyone, I would much rather prefer these graphics with the new engine, this is te 21st century and we are going into the future, who wants to be stuck with some outdated graphics that don't even look to good? The people that say they prefer the older graphics probably grew up in the 80s with the 16 bit graphics and still prefer them (not sure about games in the 80s didn't play them but you get what I'm saying). Otm are trying to attract mmo players from the desktop games and even new players that haven't played the desktop mmo's and I think they are doing a good job of that because when I started a new character when the new engine came out it blew my mind how good it looked running through Lirs Reach, when I first started playing the game back in 2012 I didn't have the same reaction, it was far less excitable reaction. I think this is a good step for them and I'm sure the lag issues will be sorted in due time as this is a new engine to them so all they need is time to sort everything out
